Pick one song from the 80's that was a hit. It can be from any genre. Share the video in your post. Tell why it was a hit, why you chose it, and any other meaning it has to you. Make sure that you include the name of the artist and song so that there are no duplicate entries. All posts must be made by November 4, 2017 at 11:59 pm. Make sure write using complete sentences and all posts must be a minimum of 75 words. If want to include a picture do so as well. Even though you were not born in the 80's you still are familiar with some of the music from the period.
For instance, my video is by Culture Club, " Karma Chameleon". I particularly like this song because it has a strong bass line that creates an ostinato, which seems to propel the music forward. The use of instruments such as the harmonica add to the flair that the video itself presents. It is set (or appears to be set) in New Orleans or some similar place. Women have the dainty parasols while the men are dressed in petticoats. Musically, it is simple to catch and the melody is short using only simple motifs. I also appreciate that the group used some literary devices like alliteration and onomatopoeia.
My favorite song of the 80s would have to be "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper. It was a hit in the early 80s- coming out in 1983. This song was really popular in its era. It was just a really cool and catchy pop song that originally was created by a man. I really like this song because every time I think of it, my head just starts dancing. The entire song is just very very catchy and really nice to listen to. The drums in the music is clear and if you were to really just listen to an instrumental of this the vibe of this song would be nice. It has a sorta disco and techy sound that is hard to explain. However, once it is heard all you may want to do is dance around and sing it.

My favorite song of the 80s is "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. This one of the songs out of the best-selling album "Thriller". The song and the album itself won numerous awards and the music video is creative. The song is used today for things like Halloween and commercials. The song is very catchy and I feel like doing the choreography to the song. The instruments that were used in the song were very precise and makes you want to dance. The song is basically like a disco- funk type of song.

My all-time favorite 80s hit song is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. The first time I was introduced to this song was 7th grade in choir and then again when I began watching Glee. Its so catchy, especially the chorus. I like how it starts off slow and soft, then it gets loud and more upbeat. This song is a hit because everyone knows this song, even if they only know "Don't stop, believin'! Hold onto that feeling!" The guitar solo towards the end of the song makes me wanna bang my head around and dance terribly in my room.

My favorite song from the 80s is Queen - Another One Bites the Dust. It is my favorite mostly because of the simplicity of the instruments. It amazes me how so little can really make it a Hit. The lead vocalists voice really made the song better. If it would have been anyone else singing this song it would not have been as impactful as it was on the people of the 80s. The simple instrumental really brought out the character in the vocalists voice.

My favorite 80s hit song would be "In the Air" by Phil Collins. My dad and I always listened to this on the road when I was younger. We still listen to it today and sing along to it. This song was a hit because of the beat and the song itself is very catchy. Also, the words are relatable and he was famous and well liked.

One of my favorite songs from the 80's is "Something In My Heart" by Michel'Le. This song was released at the end of the 80's, it was the year of 1989 to be exact. The reason I'm so in love with this song because I can relate and also you can actually hear the emotion in her voice. The reason why Michel'Le was such a great and distinctive artist because you would have never know by just looking at her that she had a powerful voice like she has. If you ever hear exactly how she talks and how she sings you would be in shock. I like her other songs like "No More Lies" , "Nicety", "Never Been In Love", and others. She was one of the best and still is in my opinion. It was her voice and Dr. Dre's producing that made her an hit. :)

My favorite song from the 80’s is “Saturday Love” by Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle . It was released in 1985. The album it was featured on was named “High Priority”. I like this song because my grandmother would play it non-stop when I was a toddler. This song was actually the way I learned the days of the week..like no joke! It’s also a very catchy song which is probably the reason it is still a hit now.

My favorite 80s song is “If It Isn’t Love” by New Edition. It is one of my favorite songs because the lyrics are so relatable to many , which why it was a hit during that time and today. The beat makes you want get up, sing, dance, and act like you are performing for a huge crowd. The way the song slows down, speeds up and changes key adds more personality to the song, making it even more enjoyable.

One of my most favorite songs from the 80's is "If only you knew" by Patti Labelle. It was released in 1983. It is one of my favorites because of the emotion she expresses in her voice. The music accompanying her is not boisterous, which allows her voice to really shine through. This is a really clever thing to do when you ae producing a song for a legend such as Patti Labelle. Her extraordinary deliverance of the song is what makes it such a hit. It is hard to not feel some type of strong emotion when listening to this song. It is enough to give chills to all of it's listeners, including myself.

My favorite eighties song is "Let's Groove" by Earth,Wind, and Fire. The song is a great jam to rock to. Its movements show so much emotion and grace to black artist at the time. The use of the synth men voices at the begin really pull listeners to dance. When and where ever its heard many will start dancing and singing. It is really a staple in the funk genre. In part it is a love song that has a great beat but you wouldn't know it with how much fun your having.

My favorite song from the 80's was "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I like this song because it speaks to me on many levels. The first time I heard this, I fell in love with it. I have listened to it several times and it gives me goose bumps every time. It is talking about a girl and how much he loves her. She is his pride and joy. The genre is electric blues.

One of my favorite songs from the 80's is "Jack and Dianne" by John Mellencamp. It is a catchy, classic rock song. I like how the lyrics tell a story about a guy named Jack and a girl named Dianne. The chorus is a lot of fun to sing along too as well. It was a hit because of the artist and the storyline. It has meaning to me because my mom and I used to sing it together all the time in the car; we still do on occasions.

My favorite song from the 80's is "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. It was released in 1983 from her album "Faster Than the Speed of Night." I really enjoy this song because it has a really good melody. I first heard the song on one of my favorite shows called "Glee." In my opinion the original by Bonnie Tyler is the absolute best. Her voice just makes the song have so much more meaning. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is my favorite 80's song despite the singer though.

My favorite song from the 80’s is “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker. This song was released in 1986. It was on her album called Rapture. This song won the Grammy award for Best R&B Song in 1987. Anita has such a sweet and soulful alto voice but she can also reach and really hit those high notes. She shows that off a lot in this song. When you hear the song you just think about that 1 person you really love. I love this song.

my favorite song from the 80's is "Beat It." This song is by Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Although, this is my favorite song from the early 80's, Michael had plenty more great hits come out that year. This song is basically about men and their masculinity. I kind of relate to this song because I'm starting to grow into a man and I don't want people to think of me, or treat me like I'm a child.

My favorite song from the 80's is "Whip it" by Devo. I like the song mostly because of the background music. It was genius on how they decided to actually add in a whip sound to the music. The group is together with coordinating outfits which is a plus too. They make such a hit with such a simple but effective beat that makes you want to get up and dance forever. The genre is considered techno-pop which started my love for electronic and techno music.

My favorite song from the 80's is Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer". I like this song because of its extreme retro feel. Even though it has a hardcore and rough sound the lyrics talk about something like , the sometimes gentle, love. This song makes you want to bop your head to the beat and sing along with the words all while making you feel determined and a tad bit more in touch with your feelings. Released in 1986, "Livin' On A Prayer" was at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a month. It is definitely a fact that this song has become a rock anthem.

My favorite song from the 80’s is “Candy Girl” by New Edition. I like this song mostly because of the beat in the background. Also, I like how high their voices are when they sing the chorus of “Candy Girl”. This song is about how much they love this girl like a piece of candy. New Edition is one of my most favorite music groups from back in the 80’s, and I also cannot wait for the New Edition movie to come out on BET.

My favorite song from the 80's would have to be " How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston. This song is my favorite because it is an upbeat song and is groovy. This song puts you in the mood to dance. My favorite 80's song is Jesus is Love by Lionel Richie and The Commodores. This song was released in 1980 and is played like a new hit today. Lionel Richie has such a smooth voice and even if I did not enjoy gospel music his voice would draw me in. This song to me was well written because even if you never heard it before it is easy to pick up on. Though written so simply the lyrics express true feelings and knowledge about Christ and overall is just my favorite 80's gospel song. -Emiaya Kirk

My favorite 80’s song is “What’s love got to do with it “by Tina Turner. In this song Tina Turner was feeling no emotional attachment but enjoys the encounters with her special friend. Their relationship has nothing to do with love, which she dismisses as “a sweet, old-fashioned notion.” I really enjoy this song because of the way her voice sounds. She has a really good tone when she says “What’s love got to do with it.” I honestly think she really felt the words she was saying.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite song from the 80’s is Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. I remember singing this song in middle school. It brings back so many memories to me. To me any thing that Whitney sung was just perfection! She was such an awesome singer that people would listen to songs only because she sanged them. Getting back to the topic, this song is just peaceful and it has a powerful meaning behind it. I still listen to this song even to this day. It is a old time favorite of mines.

ReplyDelete“Secret Lovers” by Atlantic Starr is my favorite song from the 80s. It was released in 1985. It was one of their biggest hits. I chose this song because I love this song. I listen to it all the time. I like the little intro that she does at the beginning. It’s probably not a good song to listen to because of the message, but compared to the music today, it is a masterpiece. This is overall a beautiful song.

My favorite song from the 80s is “When Doves Cry” by Prince. This song was made in 1984. Prince was an great artist and it was very tragic when he died that is why i'm chosing this song, for the rememberence of Prince. This song was a popular hit because Prince was already an popular artist because of his other hits. I love how the song starts out with the powerful electric guitar. I also like the “electric keyboard"? The lyrics of the song shows the emotion of he felt when he was writing the song. I like how he perfectly executed hitting those high notes that another guy would fuss about because it would be to high. The verses are okay and tells his story but I really like the chorus.

My favorite 80’s song is Stevie Wonder-Isn’t She Lovely. I like this song because he sings it with so much emotion. Stevie with him being blind and able to sing and play piano and write his own music is amazing. The storyline of this song also is what I enjoy most about this song. The chorus says “Isn’t she lovely, isn’t she wonderful,” shows how his true character and respect for women. The instrumental part of the song also contributes to it, which I like.

My Favorite song is "Same 'Ol Situation (S.O.S.) by Motley Crue which was released in 1989. This song was pizzazz because it is the true meaning of rock and roll. From the very first beat it comes in with such and up-beat drum and guitar. The song has a catchy tune, but is also relatable. I especially think that this genre is different from other genres because it showcase men differently. In most of the pictures you will find of them, they will have makeup on. They also had very long thick hair. In some of their outfits they look especially girly because the clothing they had on was very sexual. The rock and roll and heavy metal now a days are not what they used to be! But what genre really is. But this is one that I would have rather stayed the same because it has this rock, fist pumping, and head smashing type of feel to it. Ultimately, I would recommend anyone listen to this song.

My favorite song from the 80's is "Caught up in the rapture" by Anita Baker. I like this song because its so real. She's talking about how the love makes her feel as though nothing around her matters other than the person she loves. Music from the 80's told a story and that's a characteristic music today lacks. If music sounded more like this I wouldn't mind listening to the radio as opposed to plugging in a aux chord.
