When I was little....

This week, you need to find a video of a song that came out during the month you were born and in the same year. This means that you will need to do a little research. List the song, the date it came out, and who sang the song. Then, describe what musical things are in the song. You can talk about instruments used, the voice parts, any unique harmonies, or any other musical elements you would like. Your post should be at least a paragraph in length. Check your grammar and spelling. Include the link to the video in your post as well as your name if you post anonymously. Your posts are due by Friday, November 11, 2016.

For instance, a post should look like this:
On February 9, 1991 (a fictional date when I was born), the group C+C Music Factory released a song called "Gonna Make You Sweat". I liked this song because it had a strong bass line that provided an even stronger beat to make you want to dance. It had strong vocals and the lead background singer practically screamed "Everybody Dance Now!" which made me want to dance. It is characteristic of music from this era that had inflections of pop, hip hop, and late disco.dance tracks. Songs now do not possess the same energy and pizzazz. Even though the woman in the video was not the one singing the lick, it was still an energetic dance song.

  1. I was born on October 16, 2000. On October 7, 2000 "Bag Lady" by Erykah Badu was very popular. Although the song came out in September, it did not become widely known until my birthday month, which is October. I like this song because of the guitar, melody, and meaning. The song is telling women to let go of the "baggage" they have received from past relationships. Personally, I've heard the instrumental and harmonies from this song utilized and remixed in other musical selections. The smooth and almost spiritual feel of the song is what I enjoy the most about it. I love Erykah Badu as an artist, and this song is very enjoyable to me.

  2. I was born August 30, 1999. In July 1999, Christina Aguilera released her album "Christina Aguilera". A particular song from that I'm interested in is "Genie in a Bottle". This song is so catchy. I honestly did not know this song until I heard a cover of it for a movie I watched on Disney Channel. I like the beat very much. The chorus is definitely my favorite part. This song has the pop feel that I like so much. I like the underlying meaning her lyrics have in them. This incredible song is really fun and is super fun to sing along with. It also showcases her talents.

  3. I was born on July 18th of 2000. In July 2000, the song "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men was released. The song is in the genre of hip-hop and is known widely by many. It was a remix of another song, that was turned into a classic. The track went on to win the Grammy for Best Dance Recording on the 2001 Grammy Awards. Personally, I love this song and the upbeat tempo.

I like it when he gets to the chorus. Usher is one of my favorite singers. He is one of my favorites because he has an amazing voice.

  6. I was born April 26, 2001. On April 30, 2001 R.E.M released "Imitation of Life" in the UK. It song categorized as alternative rock, pop rock, and jangle pop that I really enjoy because of the strong guitar backed up by piano and a subtle hit of the tambourine. These beautiful instruments are backed up by meaning full lyrics sung in a mellow voice harmonized with others. It is a fun song and is extremely catchy, but it also got it's name from the 1959 film by Douglas Sirk about a fair skinned black girl that can pass as white who abandons her black mother to try and pursue her life as white woman. You see the toll it takes on them all mentally and physically throughout the movie. If you break down the lyrics you can see a story being told or an insinuation of something similar which makes me love the song even more.

  7. I was born on August 9, 2000. In August 2000, Christina Aguilera released the song, "Come on over baby (All I want is you)". I remember dancing to this song in preschool and instantly knowing that I'd love it. The harmonies during the chorus makes me fall in love all over again. It's upbeat music makes you want to dance with the song on repeat.

I love this song because it talks about how even though you act like you don’t love that person you really do on the inside. The beat of this song really makes you want to get up dance. My favorite part of this song is when Nelly is rapping.

  12. I was born on September 22, 1999. On September 21, 1999 Mariah Carey released the song "Heartbreaker"ft Jay Z. As you can guess from the title of the song its about a heartbreaker. I like this song because the lyrics are relatable for many people. Mariahs uniquie voice gives the song a one and only sound that can be given by her. The instrumentals for this song is very simple. The same drum beat and guitar strum. This makes the song easy on the ears for listening.

  13. I was born in September of the year1998. During this time there was a number of hits like Time After Time and Go Deep. The song I chose to talk about is Are You That Somebody by Aaliyah. This was one of many songs that inceased awareness of hip-hop during a time where the genre was becoming popular. The utilization of beatboxing is amazing especially with the flow of the beat. Its comfortable vocal and time from time bass swing helped meld the song together. In a since its like a fusion of pop and hip-hop.

  14. My birthday is October 08,2001. On October 30,2001 Michael Jackson released a song called "Invincible". It is a pop style song that is very catchy and you can dance to it.The song includes a small rap verse to give it that hip-hop feel. Invincible explores themes such as love, romance, isolation, media criticism, and social issues, kind of like many songs today, making it relatable to so many.

  15. Mary G. Blige released a song named "family affair" on November 3, 2001 which is 13 days earlier than when I was born. This song topped all Billboards listed as #1 for six weeks. I think that many people may share the same opinion that this song is well liked because it is upbeat and has the intention and usually succeeds in making a person dance. Based off of the lyrics, this artist's intentions was for whoever was listening to leave their problems behind for a moment and dance, have fun. No matter how long ago this song came out, it endures in succeeding in connecting with listeners, allowing their body to move to the beat of the song. The song, "Family affair" is occasionally found used in movies, and played at family reunions. This R&B/ soul music is a favorite to many "old school" or older members; although I'm not old, I do enjoy listening to this song.

  16. I was born June 7, 1929. Just kidding, but I was born June 7, 1999. One of the songs that came out during my birth month and year was "Bills, Bills, Bills" by Destiny Child which came in the month of June 1999. This song is very unique song and has a meaning to it. Destiny Child was a quartet at the time. The song is basically talking about men that don't act like men that want their girls to do everything even pay their BILLS. (Not gone happen) The beat and instruments that was used behind the lyrics of the song was very unique back then and still is now! This is one of my favorite Destiny Child's song.

  19. My birthday is January 26, 2000, and on the day of January 25, 2000, a woman by the name of Macy Gray released her song "I Try". Macy's singing voice is raspy with a smooth fill and is really nice and interesting to listen to . Her style is very unique and creative because she can usually be seen with her big brown afro in her hair. The song has a steady drum beat and really nice instrumental feel with the tambourine, piano, and guitar strumming smooth yet fast chords in the background. The song is one of the ones that is catchy and cool to listen to. The bass line of "I Try" is amazing. The song tells of her trying to walk away from the man she loves however, she can not because she loves him so much. It is very nice and amazing to listen to because even though the words may seem sad, the music in the back picks up any mood.

  20. The song that I found that came out on my birthday was Outkast- Ms. Jackson. It was released in December of 2000. Outkast was group of 2 people, Andre 3000 and Antwan Patton, a.k.a. Big boi. I liked the song because of its chorus. The beat sounds like its rewinding. Andre 3000 sings the chorus and he sing 3 different notes. He also sings the background along with Big Boi. It is such a good song.

  21. With my birthday being in the past month of October I looked up these songs and found one that really touched my heart. It is Celine Dion's "These are the special Times" it was put on a Christmas album during this year but it applies to many eventful things. One example that comes to mind is graduation, this song makes me think of all the special times we shared together as a class and as we continue day by day we have less time together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTK9ehUGJmE -Courtney Jones

  22. I was born in the year 2001 in the month of June. During this time, there weren’t that many hits. One song that did come out though was Lady Marmalade. This song is by 4 awesome artists which include Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink. Hearing all the different vocals especially one of my favorite artists Christina was amazing. This is one of the best remakes of the song by the legend herself Patti Labelle. It is a great love story type of song. I will always like this song.

  24. I was born on September 11,2001. A soundtrack album that came out on that day is Glitter by Mariah Carey. This album did not get much attention at all because of the horrific events that happened on 9/11. One of the songs on the album, that went unnoticed, is Reflections (Care Enough). I like this song despite the harsh reviews of critiques. I like the piano chords playing in the background. I also enjoy the very subtle sound of bass in the background. I am very fond of the meaning of the song. I like the emotion she put into it. I feel this song fits well into the era of music in 2001.

When Eminem starts rapping it's like he's rapping a letter that he wrote to someone. Throughout the song he just basically raps his letter of feelings for life .

  26. I was born August 28, 2002. “Dont Mess With My Man” was released on August 25, 2002 by Nivea feat. Jagged Edge. This song was very popular in the early 2000s. I like this version with Jagged Egde in it. The background kinda of sounds like a ringtones that somebody would have in the early 2000s. Nivea stated that her man was hers and you couldn't have him so you should go find your own. If you did mess with her man she would hurt you or probably fight you. I never thought about the songs that were been played around the time that I was being born so I really appreciate the blog post so I could do research.

  30. I was born on February 22,2000. This listening was a challenge for me because 1. I was only a couple of days old and 2. I don't remember any songs made exactly in my birth month. Eventually through the help of Monique, we discovered Jagged Edge 'Lets Get Married". I have never actually heard the Original version but I have heard the remix featuring RUN DMC. The Orignal is slower and has a more romantic feel. I really like the remix better because it is more up temp and I can dance to it. I do remember listing to the remix as a younger child with my older cousin but I cannot recall the original.

  31. In September 1999, one popular song that was produced was "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias. It is a Latin pop song that was the beginning of the Latin American crossover in music. The song's titile means "we dance". There is a wide range of instruments that were used, however, the most out standing was the trumpet. The song is really about the joy of dancing with one another.

The back ground is the best part. I think its Genuwine in the back ground. And I like the simpilcity to the intrumental. Modern times needs a taste if this kind if music.

  33. My birthday is September 26, 1999. The song that came out during my birthday month and year was "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey and Jay Z. The beat behind the song lyrics was what carried the song. The bass guitar was very distinctive in this song! Mariah Carey and Jay Z was thriving during this time and a collaboration between the two was just phenomenal. The song is about having an idea that the person you were dating was no good and was you knew they were gone break your heart and you still dated them. Also every time they broke your heart you come back to them because their charm was like no other. The music video did not have Jay Z in it but just his voice. "Heartbreaker" was on the Billboard Charts for a long time. You guys should go check it out.

There were many aspects of this song that I really enjoyed. I liked the flute-like instrument along with the beat of the song. I also lIke the melodit's when he made the adlibs for the song as well. Usher has a really amazing voice and I believe that it's all about presentation. The way he sings the song makes it ten times better and it complements the story that he is telling. I really adore the early 2000s music which made this blog post much more enjoyable.

I was born September 8, 2000. “Independent Women” by Destiny’s Child was released on September 4, 2000. It was the lead single for the Charlie's Angels soundtrack and the group's third album, Survivor, later in 2001. I love this song because it promotes feminism and encourages women to be independent. The song has distinct musical elements that makes it stand out to me. The opening has a syncopated shaker and a great rhythm. The vocals in the song are perfect. BeyoncĂ©’s voice is beautiful and has a unique sound in the song. It is a song that no matter how much it was played, people will never get tired of hearing. This will always be a song loved by many.

  37. My birthday being July 9, 2002, I found a single track recorded by a band i actually enjoy listening to- Maroon 5. The single is entitled "Harder to Breathe". The track was released as a single about a month after its featured album Songs About Jane was released. The track has lyrics that both act as a cry for help and a sign of repulsion for the person the song is meant to appeal to. The song presents an angered view on the relationship the speaker has recently ended. The singer is very passionate about the presentation of the song, as if he means what he is singing. This is a probable reason as to why I appreciate this song, in addition to the guitar melodies and keyboard chords backing the drum line.

  38. My birthday is December 15 1999 and a song that came out in 1999 is This Gift by 98. The group Explains in the song how their significant other is a special gift to them all for Christamas.I Like how they All have their unique features of singing and how The lead singer Nick is always into the song.

    The snow is falling
    The city is white
    Your eyes are shining
    like diamonds tonight
    And we're all alone
    There's no one home
You're finally in my arms again

    The night is silent
    And Christmas is here
I couldn't ask for more than having ya near
'Cause I love you girl (love you girl)
And I always will (always will)
And now I know the moment is right
    The moment is right

Cause I've been waiting to give this gift tonight
    I'm down on my knees
    There's no better time
It's something to last for as long as you live
Tonight I'm gonna give you all my heart can give

I thought I'd give you something shiny and new
I'd try to find something worthy of you
But I realized when I looked inside
There's some things that money can't buy (oh no)

I feel the magic whenever you're near
I feel it even more this time of the year
Cause I love you girl (love you girl)
    I always will (always will)
And now I know the moment is right
    The moment is right

    [Chorus]

You know I'll always be true to you
And you know I'm the one you can turn to
Any time, any place, or anywhere
You know that I'll always be there

    [Chorus]
