POPS Concert Reflection
In this week's blog post, you are to do the following:
1. Post a 100 word minimum discussion about your experiences with POPS concert.
2. Share a link to two (2) videos (YouTube, Vine, Instagram, etc) that reflect one good choral performance and one poor choral performance. The videos must be school appropriate. They should be of a song that you have sung or would like to sing.

ReplyDeleteThis year, was my first year at BTW, which would also means it was my first year in POPS. Although I have been in many performances this was my first performance that was mixed with different elements of the arts, for example the skits performed by musical theatre. After I got accustomed to singing and dancing at the same time, I began to get really excited for the performance. Rehearsal for this performance was slightly tiring but fun and enjoyable. Although we did not have the best dress rehearsal we still did a great job. Everyone had lots of energy and it was more enjoyable for the audience and myself because we were not just standing on risers but moving and dancing. I can not wait to do this again!!!

DeleteSince this is my first year at BTW, I didn’t know much about POPS or how everything was done. But I immediately caught on to the routine once the first night was finished. But just after night two, I was instantly exhausted but I kept on giving it my best. I loved the energy everyone gave off and how organized everything was. It wasn’t my first night ever though. I’ve been performing since the sixth grade so I wasn’t completely clueless when it came to what to do. I honestly loved how much fun POPS was and I cannot wait until next year so I can do it again.

On September 29,2016, I performed during the opening night of POPS. I am a junior and have been at Booker T Washington Magnet High School for all of my high school years. I have also been in the choral magnet all three years so this year's POPS concert was not my first but my third. I really enjoyed this year's POPS because I feel as if I applied myself more. I also enjoyed the songs we were singing more than I have the past two years. The first night was a little rough due to technical difficulties. The second night was much better than the first but the last night was the absolute best. That was my POPS experience for 2016.

My last POPS Concert was definitely a success. Although there were mistakes, I still had a great time. I was very impressed by the talent of the performers this year as well as the diversity in songs. One of my favorite elements about POPS is that it isn’t secluded to just one magnet. We incorporated Musical Theatre for the commercials, Tech Theatre for lights and sound, and other magnets for our MC’s. I was very impressed with the choreography and vocal performance by the choir this year. Even though the rehearsals were long and numerous, it was worth it. POPS was a success.

I am a freshman of Booker T. Washington
ReplyDeleteMagnet High School and this was my first time participating at the POPS Concert. At first I didn't get the concept of what POPS really was but I asked some of my fellow seniors mates. POPS is basically a school fundraiser. It was also used as an performance credit. I was able to participate in the POPS Concert and it was amazing. One the first night(September 29,2016) I was scared and nervous but I have been performing since I was in the 6th grade. On the second night(September 30,2016) was the best night out of all three. Everybody had fun, the commercials and solo's were great. On the third night all of the performers were tired but we still did our part. I was very thankful for being able to be apart of the POPS Concert for 2016. I ccan't wait until next year. I would also like to tell the seniors good job and good luck because this was their last POPS Concert.

I honestly didn’t know how POPS would go or what it would be like. I knew it wasn’t going to be boring, but I honestly thought it was going to be people trying to do the most or something like that. I have performed before but never performed with the dance moves and singing at the same time. Performing with the BTW choir was actually amazing. I enjoyed the songs, but rehearsals not so much. But with POPS it was also a bad side. I was never able to get all my work done, or study for a test because we had to perform. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and I hope I’m able to do it again!

This is my fourth and last time performing in POPS, and I have to say I couldn't be happier. I do not enjoy dancing in front of people. It went pretty well, fortunately I liked all of the songs we sang this year. The first night was a little rough because of technical difficulties and it was much too crowded in the wings on the side with the instruments. The show was also really long, but that happened to be the case with every night. Overall, POPS turned out really well and I am so happy to be done with it.

With this being my last POPS concert I was content with the performance. This POPS was unlike any other and I could tell everyone tried their hardest. It was great that theater could perform their commercials and the performers for singing or playing. It shows the true spirit of POPS which encourages expression of ability and skill. I have to say that the first night flopped since there was no music for Smooth, but I was glad everyone tried their hardest to make sound. In brief this year was different but it was expansive with the performances and still fun for the audience.

While my opinion is biased since this is my first POPS performance, I believe that it went fairly well; This was possibly one of the best performances that I've participated in. Even though the first night didn't go as smoothly as anticipated and the final performance didn't show as much energy, I still believe that it was still a good performance. It was obvious that everyone put their best effort into these performances, even if it left most of us exhausted. I hope I speak for everyone when I say that I hope next year's (and years' to come) performances will be even better.

I am very happy that this is my fourth and last POPS concert and it was fun.The difference between this year and last year is that that choir did more performances and more fun. It was very impressive on the first night of POPS and the music for smooth messed up and everybody kept going. It really showed how professional kept going instead of stopping. Also, the first night of POPS was kind of more hectic than other years because we have to do more outfit changes. The other two nights ran by very smoothly. Everybody did a good job in POPS and the energy level was high. There were other mistakes as well, but we kept going.

The POPS was a fun experience seeing as though it was my first one. Not only was it great performing,but I also for the chance to see and hear some amazing skits and voices. I got a bit of a feeling on how things run in getting ready and discipline while also having tremendous amounts of fun. There were only a few cooks such as, the time span everything seemed rush , but I expected that, the attitude of certain performers were not up to pare, and of course the petty theft. All in all it was a super cool time and I would love to do it again.

This year for POPS for me was especially fun, mainly because I performed separate from the choir. The songs were really fun and the dances were very energetic. I also enjoyed interacting with the Freshmen and new students for the first time. I hope they enjoyed their first POPS and they really put forth a lot of effort when it came to getting ready for it. Based upon how well POPS went I am eager to be performing with this group of people! I also hope that the song choices for this school year better and better! CLASS OF 2018 STILL LIT THOUGH!!

This year's POPs Concert was fun an a little emotional being that this was my last one. The song choices this year were very energetic and fun. I enjoyed working with everyone. I liked that we kept going in Smooth on our first night even though the music had stopped. That was pretty impressive to me. Everyone came together and had fun even though we had some confusion. We put in a lot of effort to get everything done and we did just that. I wish I could do it over again next year. Overall, I had an awesome time in this year's POPs.

POPS, as always, was lit for me. Though we hit a few bumps in the road the first night, the other two nights ran like clockwork. The performers, as well as myself, did an amazing job with their songs. This year every song that was chosen for us to sing I really liked because they were made the year I was born. So it was fun to rep the 90s one last time. I look forward to POPS next year along with the rest of this year because my time at BTW is slowly coming to an end and I want them to be the most memorable.

With this being my last POPs Concert, I thought it went quite well. I liked the songs that were picked this year. There were a few things that we improved on as each performance day went on. We had a few mess ups but we worked through them and had a successful show. I really enjoyed the senior's gender swap. Everyone put in effort to get things done. It was impressive to see how well things progressed each night. I had a fun experience. On the last day I was exhausted and knew that all of our hard work paid off. Overall, the performance was great!

ReplyDeleteThis year was my second time being in POPS and it was great! The song selections were awesome too, and this was my favorite out of the two years because I love the 90's. I had hurt myself badly, but luckily it was the last day! And I was sick, laughing out loud, maybe it was not so good health wise, but I still maintained the highest energy level I could give. And even though there was some bumps in the road, we all got through them and did the best we could, as usual. I am very proud to be a part of something so nice!

DeleteThis years’ POPS Concert was excellent. I like how there was more of a variety than there was last year. We did an amazing job on all 3 nights, but out of all the performances, I think the 2nd night was the best because the crowd was more into it. When we performed, there was a lot of energy and everyone did their part to make the performance great. Everyone was tired by Saturday, but gave all that they could. I’m looking forward to the rest of the school year. I hope every performance is as good as this one or even better.

This was my very first POPS concert and I really enjoyed it. I liked the theme of the concert as well as the song selections. My favorite part of pops was the "Gospel Mash up”. My section leader (Jasmine) did a very good job with directing the choir. She was also very entertaining. In my opinion, the best night of POPS was the second night. I say this because the crowd was more involved with us and no one was nervous while performing. Basically, everyone had a good time while performing and we all had fun while doing singing and dancing.

This was my first Pops concert ever. That being said I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed performing all the songs and I enjoyed watching the crowd’s reaction to our performance. I would have to say, my favorite night that we performed is Friday because the crowd was into it and our energy was high. I think the energy was okay Thursday but we had some technical difficulties and Saturday our energy was good but the crowd seemed dead. It was hard to tell if they were enjoying our performance unlike Friday. However, I enjoyed the whole experience and I look forward to next year’s concert.

Considering this has been my third year here at BTW, I have to say that I really enjoyed pops this year. On Thursday, we hit some bumps that were not mostly our faults, and even with the difficulties our energy was very high and we kept going - even when the music stopped- and gave the show our all. Friday, I have to say was our best night our energy was amazing the audience was really into our show which, i think helped with our energy because we saw how they were sooo into it. On Saturday I'm pretty sure that everyone was tired from the crazy and quick wardrobe changes in the short amount of time we had to do. Despite all the hardships, POPS was a total success from the music, to the the dance moves, to everyone knowing the words. Everything about POPS was really good and next year should be nothing but the same if not better.

Our POPS performance went great. We sounded amazing and we did an excellent job. We kept the crowd entertained and involved for the most part. Our transitions were smooth the second and third day. The first day we had to adjust and get it together. My favorite part was the gospel part. We were loud and synchronized. The robes we wore were hot, but it added to our performance. Our wardrobe was good. My favorite dance was black and white. That was a really fun song for us and the crowd seemed to enjoy it too. This was my second POPS and we did pretty good in my eyes.

In my opinion POPS 2016 went great. I do believe that we were very well prepared. The fact that our music had diversity added to POPS. It wasnt all focused on pop songs from the 90s but we also added some country in there :). On the first night, I am very glad that the choir followed instructions and worked together as team when the music stopped and everyone continued to sing and move. The crowd seemed to really enjoy the show. I think this years POPS was my favorite of the three I’ve been in so far. And although POPS is very stressful during the weeks leading up to it, when it comes it can be such a fun experience. Maybe next years POPS could be even better. (CAN WE PLEAAAASE DO DISNEYYY!!!!!!!)

My first concert was POPS and although it wasn’t everything I imagined my first performance to be like with choir, I enjoyed the fun. My favorite song that we performed as far as having fun goes would be, “Melodies.” I loved how the conductor on that song was so energetic; she made me smile the whole time while singing the song and we as the choir, fed off of her energy and it also transferred to the audience. The commercials were very entertaining, and the solo and/ or group performers were great examples of how talented our school is. I also liked how choreography was incorporated into our music, instead of only singing. Although, the week of the POPS concert was stressful to me due to unnecessary drama in practice, an abundant amount of tests and quizzes, friend events, and sleep deprivation. My first POPS concert will be one that I will not forget, and I look forward to doing it again next year as a sophomore.

This is my second year at BTW so it is also my second POPS concert as well. I really have enjoyed both of my POPs concerts. In my opinion we did great on certain nights and could’ve done a little better. The voices and sounds were great and I really enjoyed the song choices. The dances were so much fun especially Melodies from Heaven which was my favorite. I really liked the 90s theme for the concert. Even though there were a few mishaps before and during the concert nights CMD still managed to pull it through of course. I can’t wait to see what we are going to do next year.

POPS 2016 went very great in my opinion. We were prepared for POPS this year. This is my second year at BTW and my second year in POPS. This year POPS was 90’s theme. Having the concert be 90’s themed really made POPS energetic. My favorite part in POPS was the Gospel songs we did. Total Praise and Melodies from Heaven was my favorite of all three nights. Zippy was also one of my favorite solos in POPS. The commercials that Musical Theater performed had everyone laughing. This was my best year in POPS yet. I think that everyone enjoyed POPS this year because I know I did.

This was actually my 2nd time performing in pops and my 2nd year at btw (im a junior) but this year compared to my first year was great. The 1st night the technical difficulties Kind of soured the 1st night but Friday and Saturday was amazing. Overall i feel as if it was energized and that everyone enjoyed just as well as i enjoyed it. All three nights (especially Thursday) you could see the excitment in each song. The dances were great and like i said even though there were a few difficulties we managed to pull together. We are one choir with one sound.Also besides our choir the other performers did well also showing their exceptional talents to the audience to. I cant wait to see what we will do since Itll be my senior year 18'.

This was my last POPS Concert at BTW. Out of the four performances I have done, this was by far the best! Even though there was technical difficulties the first night we still kept our energy up. All of the other acts did great as well and I believe the audience enjoyed POPS concert. My favorite piece in POPS Concert was the gospel pieces. I feel like we connected more with the audience in those songs and there was a lot of energy. Overall, this is a memory that i will tell in the years to come as one of my best high school experiences ever.

POPS for me was amazing. I performed this year and it overall was good. POPS ran so smooth for a majority of the shows, and everybody was on point throughout the night. My third POPS was one to remember, it was fun for me. The songs, the dances, the lights, even the theme within itself. The commercials were funny and came from all spectrums of the 90s. This POPS concert was my very first concert here as a freshman, and I think it went very well! On the first night, there were some technical difficulties on our first song, but I think everyone handled it very well. Everybody danced and sang to the best of their abilities and it showed on stage. I feel like every night, everyone just became more and more confident in what they were doing. The commercials were great as well! The musical theatre department definitely brought some excitement to the POPS concert. I cannot wait until the next POPS 2K16 Choir performance!!

This year at POPS I had the most fun I’ve ever had at POPS. Those dances were fun and the songs were good too. The people who performed did extremely and the Theatre and Musical Theatre magnet di very good with their commercials. I loved that we did 90s music since that’s my era! I have gotten a lot of very good responses about POPS and people are eager to see and hear what is to come from the BTW Choral Magnet. I can’t wait for the rest of the year because I know we will only get better throughout the year.

As the choral president and one of the main people who organized Pops this year, it was a good but challenging experience. Last year, I helped to create the dance for the guy’s song. Doing that was not as difficult, but was still a challenging task because everyone has their own personalities and not everyone has the readiness to follow directions. The year prior to that, my tenth grade year, I helped put together part of a dance, but was not over teaching it, and my freshman year, I just learned the dances. The way I look at it is that each year I have gained more and more responsibilities in the choir. Years prior we would only dance to two songs, but this year we were able to learn four totally different dances. I did have complications along the way from everyone, but the end result is the performance. I felt, almost, everyone had the energy that was need on each night, despite the technical difficulties we pushed through each day. One thing we have to work on though is our attention span because some of us will lose focus when we aren’t singing or on stage, and even on stage. Overall, I was happy with the results of Pops, and hope that once we, the seniors, leave that the rest of the classes will assume the position they have long been waiting for.

So this was my first year being in the POPS Concert and I had a good time. I got the chance to meet some of the other kids in choir amd they were really nice. I liked all of the songs that we sung and the dances that the choreographers made. It was impressive to see how everbody could keep dancing and singing even though there were some minor technicalities. I also liked that in the end we were all able to work together and get what we needed done. I heard from some teachers that they came and enjoyed the show that we gave and that they can't wait to see or next one.

This year’s POPS was good. The dances for this year were elaborate and enjoyable. I had a lot of fun this year. Instead of singing one genre of music, we sang many different varieties. Every one enjoyed themselves and worked together. We put on a good show. Instead of arguing and making a big fuss out of everything, we made sure that we worked together to get the show done. Our goal of entertaining the crowd was also maintained. I also sang in a trio that everyone believed did good. Achey Breaky Heart was my favorite.

Good:This year at POPS I had a lot of fun. I especially like the fact that the songs were from the 90s and from different genres. The dances were also really fun, and not too complicated. The choir as whole gave a lot of energy and had a lot of stage presence. The shows ran smoothly and we were able to work through the kinks in the show as they occurred. I am eager to see how the rest of the year goes based on how good this year went. And I’m especially happy that this year is my junior year. I’m so happy about this year!

This year was my first year of POPS. Since I’ve never been a part of POPS, I can’t say how the past performances have been. When I first learned that I had to dance, I was uncomfortable. Now that we’ve done it, I am used to it. I had fun performing this year. The ability to dance and smile at the same time is very hard. I don’t have the ability to do that. I look forward to doing POPS next year with the choir of Booker T. Washington Magnet High. I want to sing with the choir more often.

This was my first year at POPS and my first experience was great. Although it was very confusing at first because I had to learn choreography, and learn how to dance because I am really not a very good dancer POPS was still a very good experience for me. I am very disappointed in myself for not dancing at POPS because I wish I would have at least tried to dance so next year it would not be as hard as it was this year. Overall I have really enjoyed POPS and the BTW choir because it pushes me to strive for excellence in all things, to not be afraid to try new things, and to never give up.

POPS concert this year was very different from last year. This year the theme was different and new seniors have risen up. Even with all the difficulty this year we still had fun. Everything came together and we put on a great show. Is it bad to my favorite part of POPS was strike? I really enjoyed strike on Saturday because I really got to show my true skill of multi-tasking. I also really enjoyed the commercials especially Mom jeans. At the end of the day POPS was a great success and everybody had fun.

ReplyDeleteThe 2016 Pops Concert was my first time ever performing as a BTW student. The concert last three nights, back to back. The first night was something that I will remember for the rest of my high school experience. I had a lot of fun, which was the most important thing, and I also got rid of some first time “jitters”. I feel like everybody was enjoying themselves and having a good, especially, since it was the last time performing at a Pops Concert for many. The second night was even better, the crowed was on the edge of their seats! To me, we as “one choir” collaborated with each other very well. We finally understood what our choir director M. Williams meant when he said “we’re only as strong as the weakest person in here”; “we” figured out that one person doesn’t make up the whole choir. So when a person mess up or make a mistake you just keep going “the show must go on”. By the end of the school year “we” will be the best in the city if we’re not already!

The POPS Concert of 2016 was pretty good. This was not my first POPS nor is it my last seeing as though I have two more years to complete at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School. It was really fun to spend time with my peers and those that I don't get to see as often as others. I really enjoyed watching most of the performances from upstairs and the wings due to my not liking to dance to that genre of music,especially in front of a crowd. I had a lot of fun singing the songs and interacting with the performers. My favorite scene had to be the church choir, even though I deeply disliked the robes we had to wear. I feel that the audience enjoyed the songs and themselves as well. In my opinion those that led and directed the songs gave it their best and had fun. I also found the "throwback" commercials to be very amusing and commend the theatre magnets for their hard work. I enjoyed POPS and can't wait to see what next years agenda holds.

Performance Law Number 73,every performer must be in a good performance and also be in a poor performance. This must be the way for every performer and everyone,you must experience a good period of your life and also prepare for a bad period of life. This year at POPS, I felt like we as performers experienced both a good period and a bad period.I felt like we did very well but there are many areas we can improve on as a class.But with these changes I feel like that we can move forward as a choir and experience something special.

The Pops Concert was good this year. I like all the different songs we sung. Most definitly i like hanging out with my choir members had a wonderful time together. Our dances moves was lit this year too. I was like okay then choir. People be sleep on us but we killed all three nights regardless. The most part I love was seeing some old songs like "Weak" and "Say My Name" being performed. I felt that we all did the best we can do and we will make more success together as a team.Next year will be even better than this year.

POPS this year was actually very exciting for me. I was looking forward to this year like no other. POPS was very emotional since it was my last POPS Concert. I loved the theme, song selections, and choreography of POPS this year. The first night was kind of rough for me although since I directed a song during POPS as well as sing backup for a 2 other selections not including choir. The second night was the best night in my opinion. The crowd was more into the “Gospel Mashup” as well as the concert itself. I overall enjoyed it and hope that POPS continue to improve each and every year since we have the best choral teacher/director in Montgomery County.

Although I am in the 10th grade, this is my first year at Booker T. Washington. This year's POPS concert was a very good experience for me. POPS has prepared me for future performances. I have improved on my breathing, stage presence, and time management skills. I feel like as a whole, the choir was united and helpful to each other. My favorite part of POPS was the choreography and the vibe that we gave eachother. Everyone enjoyed themselves even with the eagerness and anxiousness of it all. My favorite night of POPS was the second night, due to the fact that the crowd was lit! The only thing that I didn't necessarily like about POPS was the time crunch. I would have liked to watch more of the other acts that occurred in the concert. Overall, I feel like POPS was an amazing time for everyone. I look forward to next year's concert.

This was my second POPS performance and it was pretty good. I feel like last year's POPS was better in transitioning and the other performance choices were better. This year i was transitions were a little rough. The other performances were good but couldve been a bigger variety of acts most of the acts were just singing. I really liked the theme this year though it was more noticeable this year last year you couldnt really tell what it was. The host were really good and kept everyone energized and into the show. Gospel Melodies was the favorite song/songs we performed I felt we did the best on those songs.Overall I think we did good.

Pops went well. My grandparents never like it and neither does my mom but my dad enjoys it. The only thing about pops is how the kids don’t act as if it’s a formal performance that they are used to seeing and that makes them thing that it is unorganized. I try to tell them that we are having a good time and all the students like this one and the other concerts we do are better for parents but they decide to come every year then complain every year but its fine. I think it went well my favorite commercial was Sean’s with the prince of belair it was good and then of course Mr. Williams did great directing the ones he did and playing piano. This is my first year at Booker T. Washington Magnet High school. But POPS was so much fun! I loved the practices, I was able to meet more of my fellow choral students and get to know their "sound" and personalities. One of my favorite performances of the event was "I Wanna Know What Love Is". I had so much fun with my friends on the stage! I can't wait for our next performance! My favorite solo performance was hallelujah. She sung the song so softly and beautifully, but with so much emotion and passion. I genuinely enjoyed POPS and can't wait for the next choral performance.
