For this second blog post, you will need to choose one choral piece that you like or enjoy hearing or performing. Tell the name of the piece, who it is by, what voicing it is for (mixed voices= SATB, women's ensemble, men's ensemble, children's choir, etc), if it uses any accompaniment (piano, drums, other instruments) and what you like about the piece. Be as specific as possible and use as many musical terms as possible. At the end of your post, please include a link to your video either on YouTube or another website/source.
In your second paragraph, discuss what critiques you have about the performance. Think like a musician and make informed comments. Do not be too broad--comments like "they sounded good" or "the tone could have been better" are not specific. Instead, write something like "the sopranos blended well when singing the higher notes and they all used the same vowel space" or "the piano was not too loud compared to the singers, providing a good balance". These are much better comments. Please check all spelling, grammar, and punctuation. All posts are due by Friday, August 30, 2019 at 11:59 pm. Late posts will received the appropriate deductions.
My favorite choral piece is "Take It to the Lord in Prayer" by Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music, sung by SATB. The accompaniment for this piece includes the keyboard and percussion. What I like the most about this song is the lyrics, they include such a powerful meaning. Not only are the lyrics amazing but the arranger did a wonderful job. Music speaks even when you can't so the underlying meaning of this song is very touching.
ReplyDeleteI prefer this song to be sung by the Oakwood Aeolians. Their blend is beautiful and they include a lot of vocal specifics. Their focus was not only to get a message across but their intonation and specifics were like no other choir. Some people just sing because they are made to but you can tell this is where these students find real joy, through music! Oakwood is my second choice for college , their choir is 80% of my reasoning. As well as sounding good they look amazing and unified .

I love watching "The Circle Life" performed by the 2018 The Lion King on Broadway Cast. The song is arranged by Ben Cohn as SATB and features a powerful soloist. This song is performed with accompaniment of many different percussion instruments. I love the animistic props they use throughout the stages. It brings the scene from the opening of the movie to real life. Cast use vivid lighting that represent African animals and culture. The soloist's color brings a soul reaching feeling to the song. the entire performance is magical.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the cast was spread out across the theater, all parts blended well. The choir was projected their voices but still managed to keep an angelic tone. The orchestra never overpowered them. It was almost as if the orchestra was just there to keep a steady beat. The soloist's dynamics and intonation was not lost in the wide theater. I love this performance because they manage to sing well while also staying in character.

One choral piece that I enjoy hearing is called "Little Boy Blue", originally a poem by Eugene Field. The poem is about the death of a child. This piece is usually performed as a women's ensemble. The instrument used to accompany this song was a piano.I like the way the song portrays a lot of emotions through out whether they be bad or good. The performers who preform this piece must have the right stature and frame. The performers did a really good job with doing just that.
ReplyDeleteSome of the singers in the choir did not have the proper shaping of certain vowels which caused the articulations to come out wrong. I like how everyone in the choir is uniformed in white tops and black bottoms. The way the performers dress says a lot about their performance. The crescendo used on the word "toys" was well done. The dynamics in this performance were quite on point for the most part. Many of the singers said certain words too late and when all the voices collided you could here those who were off. The balance between sopranos and altos was a bit off at times.

My favorite choral piece i enjoyed performing and hearing is "Lunar Lullaby". This piece is by Jacob Narverud and it is for SSA voice part. It's accompaniment is a piano. I love this because the melody is very soft sand relaxing. The voices brings beauty to the piano and it makes the song better than it should be. This song makes me forget about all the bad things in life relieve stress and also gives me chills. The tempo also brings beauty to the song.
ReplyDeleteIn this song the melody was sung very well. The sopranos blended well together. The blend all together was well performed. The tempo was was well played the accompanier and well sung by the women's ensemble. This choir would score a 7 out of 10 from me because the did so well but could have worked on their volume and the way they pronounce the words. They did very wonderful.

My favorite choral piece is "The Rose" by LeAnn Rimes. This piece is performed by a men and women ensemble sung by all singing levels (SATB). The instrument used to accompany this piece is the piano. What I like most about "The Rose" is the composer's lyrics in the piece because you see and feel the hurt that they there going through writing this piece also the words are very powerful and there telling there story in this song and how they feel.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the lights to come up sometimes, and for there voices, they can listen to each other a little bit more than they are and don't do so much as rush the song just it let it flow. I like how the choir is articulating and rounding there mouths as well as making the end of there words crisp and sharp. Another thing I love is how they had candles and the lights during there performance says a lot about the song and how powerful the piece is, as well as there crescendos and decrescendos in there piece are beautiful.

One of my favorite choral pieces that I enjoy listening to is called "God Restores". It is most popularly sung by the Oakwood Adventist University choir, Dynamic Praise. It is sung by mixed voices (SATB) and is accompanied by drums and the piano, played by Dr.Dwayne Bucknor. I enjoy listening to this song because they sound absolutely heavenly. Each part is defined, but still is balanced and blended. The harmonies between each section compliment each other perfectly. They held their notes without running out of breath, and had wonderful dynamics.
ReplyDeleteFirstly I would say that the piano entry was too long, it should be more simple because the attention should be directed towards the choir. But the way the choir came in at the beginning was beautiful. They were well blended, and sung the same vowel shapes, especially on the "O" vowel in "restores. The male voices were very clear and distinct. They clearly reached their higher octave without voice cracks and noticeable struggling. The altos were absolutely powerful, especially on the chorus. It added an intensity to the piece. The sopranos added a heavenly angel-like sound to the song. But they had power as well that added intensity on the chorus. One of the few critiques that I have is about the pronunciation and the ending consonants of their words. Their ending consonants need to come together and they need to pronounce their words better so that it doesn't just sound like indistinct harmonies. But overall, it was a great piece.
I enjoy hearing “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel. It is performed by the Youth People’s Chorus of New York City and it is voiced by a youth choir. It is also accompanied by a piano. What I like most about the choir is how color coordinated the ensemble appears. For example, all of the guys are wearing khakis with black blazers. In addition, the girls were all wearing white dresses with colorful belts. I also liked how impeccable their diction was. I could clearly hear what they were saying.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the choir performed well, there were a few flaws. As the choir moved down to the audience, the female vocal parts began to decrease in volume, or decrescendo. I do not exactly know if it was planned, but it became harder to hear the female voice parts. I also noticed how when they began clapping, the voices began to get very pitchy. However, the harmonies were very good, the vocal parts were well blended, and the balance of it all was very good. The overall performance was superior.

One of my favorite choral pieces I love to sing to is "How Excellent" by the Youth Choir at Concord. It is sung by mixed voices(SAB) and is accompanied by the piano, keyboard, and drums. I love listening to this song because they have a beautiful tone and harmony. Even though each voice parts are different, they are balanced and well blended. I just like their tone and pronunciation of the lyrics are loud and clear.
ReplyDeleteI would like to begin with how they started off as beautiful but towards the middle of the song the altos came off a little too strong. The altos kind of drowned out the sound of the sopranos but overall it was a great performance. The male voices were clear and precise. The altos had the harmony but they kind of came in a little too strong during the middle of the song. The sopranos could have sung a little louder but their melodies were quite precise and perfect. I would say that every one had on the correct attire on no one looked tacky and bored. Everyone gave their all in the song, and there were no lazy and dragged on parts in the song. Their voice layering was precise and it made them sound better and it was clean without any voice cracking and no struggles. But overall I think that they did a very good job singing this song.

One of my favorite choral pieces would have to be "Pigogo" by the Children of Agape Choir. This song is for SATB and children's choir voicing. i like that piece that this piece is a capella and how they have children singing this song. It's so cute! The children song amazing and every one of the voices blended well with one another.
ReplyDeleteFirst, i love this arrangement and everything about it. I do not have anything really negative to say about it. i would like to say the decrescendo towards the middle of the song was a great thing to do. i especially liked how the tenors and bass came in during the chorus. They have very great control over their voices. All in all, it was an amazing performance.

DeleteThe choral piece I like hearing and performing is Stephen Hurd's "Revelation 19:1". In the video I picked, he is singing with the United Voices Choir. The arrangement for this song is SATB. The accompaniments were the piano and drums. The piano was at a nice volume so that you can clearly hear the choir. The mixture of voice and instrument leads to a great song.
ReplyDeleteEven though "Revelation 19:1" is a great song, I must say that the divisi at the end of the song was not good because you could barely hear the altos. The sopranos came in too loud. When they were harmonizing, the song sounded awesome. Their dictation was great. Even with the few faults, this is a great song.

The song I chose would be "We Go Together"-Grease. This song is mixed voices also known as SATB. The accompaniment in this song is the piano. The piano gives off an 80s Summer day vibe .The voices in here mix very well to make a harmonic song.
ReplyDeleteI love this song ,and I have no flaws or criticism about it. I love how they go into the audience and interact with the crowd. They have very good control and balance over dancing and singing in front of a big crowd.
My favorite choral piece is He's Gone Away. The song is arranged by Ron Nelson. The song was written by Jake Heggie. The voices are first and second Sapporo and Alto. Also it is accompanied by the piano. I like the mix of the females voices, it give the song an angelic feeling.

The Temple University Womens Chorus did an excellent job. At times I feel as though the balance of the sopranos sometimes over powered the alto section. They had a dark but light tone. Their dynamics such as the crescendos were noticeable and performed well. There was barely an facial expression though. Other than that it was amazing.
Jon Coley
One of my favorite choir pieces would have to be "Ride on King Jesus" performed by ONU Proclamation Gospel Choir. This arrangement of the song is for SATB. i like the accompaniment of the percussion along with the choir. Just hearing the choir singing their hearts out lifts my spirits whenever im down.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I love this piece. I don't really have any negative criticism towards the arrangement. The voices blended well together, with the sopranos and altos dominating the song. The basses were loud when they needed to be and were still very much present when not necessarily needed as well.

The song I chose was "For The Good Of Them" composed by Milton Brunson and sung by the UAB Choir. This song is for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass voices. This song is accompanied by piano and drums. I like this piece not only because it's my favorite song, but because when the UAB choir sings it, they sing it with strength and feeling. When singing this song, you forget where you are and just let the spirit take over.
ReplyDeleteWhen the UAB Choir sung this song, they were very uniformed. You could hear the men loudly and clearly when their part came up. The soloist had a very good blend with the choir; she wasn't too loud or overpowering and you could still understand what she was saying even with her feeling the song. The altos could've been a little louder and it sounded like the sopranos overpowered the choir. All in all, the choir sounded very good and looked professional. The choir really let the spirit lead them during this song and I like that the most.

My favorite choral piece is "She Sings" by Amy F. Bernon. This piece can be sung by females and males (SATB). The accompaniment is a piano. I like that this song has a story behind it and you can tell by the selection of lyrics used. I also like that this song has a harmony and has dynamics that sound good.
ReplyDeleteThis piece sounded very good. I like how there was no one section louder than the other and the sound was very balanced. I think that the sound is very strong and the melody is very pretty. The only thing I would critique on is the posture and how some people were moving around. Overall, this piece was very great and the sounds were amazing.

My favorite song would have to be "Nothin' Gonna Stumble My Feet" by The Resonanz Children's Choir. This particular piece is by Greg Giplin and John Parker, but is arranged by Moses Hogan. This piece was written to be for S.A.T.B., including an accompaniment of a piano. What I love about this piece is that there is so much potential and that the kids did a very well good job.Their dynamics changing from a decrescendo getting louder. They all seemed to be focused on the conductor and they had their hands down to their side relaxed. There was some type of expression on their faces as well.
ReplyDeleteI found that in each section there was a balance that made the whole choir sound amazing. Their outfits looked well put together and I liked the way all the girls had their hair matching with a ponytail to the side. The music wasn't too loud or too soft, and I could hear each parts of the song as it was made. I would say though that next time they should not leave too much open space on the top row because that kind of threw me off. Anyways, the choir ensemble did great and they looked great while doing it.

The choral piece I enjoy hearing is “Ease On Down The Road” from the Wiz.This song was made by Michael Jackson. It can be sung in an SATB format. This song has an accompaniment with different instruments such as the bass guitar and brass instruments. Also,I like how within the song there is different tempos and dynamics that give it an upbeat feel. The blend and balance the instruments have with the person singing is very nice. And, the diction of the words were very clear.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went back and listened to the song again I realized that the only thing I would possibly change is the overall amount of accompaniment by the instruments. The reason I would do this is because if a choir was to sing this they wouldn’t be heard as clearly as they would want to because of the amount of extra background noise due to the accompaniment of the instruments. At one point I would let the choir sing a few verses a cappella then bring the instruments back in. Also, I think that the overall tone of this song is very nice and all th parts blend together very nicely. Finally, this song is something I would consider one of the best songs performed and all the things I said were only tiny things I would improve on.

The song that I chose was "Say Something" composed Pentatonix and it was preformed by Stellenbosch University Choir. This song was sung with Sopranos, Basses, Tenors, and Altos. They sang this without any music, and I think it sounded great. They were singing it a capella style. The thing I liked most about it was that they were all blending in well together and they didn't sound like they were singing over each other.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many negative comments I have about the choir. I really liked how the basses held the song down and gave it a firmness to it. The women and the other Sopranos also did very well, giving it a nice tone that blended in well with the basses. It's really cool to me that they didn't even need music for this piece, and that they were able to create the music themselves.

I don't have very many critiques because the performance was awesome but I do have a few. The sung was performed too fast it's supposed to be soulful and a feel good song. Also the alto was way too loud and overbearing when the parts were divided.

My favorite choral piece that I enjoyed performing was "Stars I Shall Find" by Victor C. Johnson. This is a SATB song. The instrument this song uses is a piano. Some things I like about this piece is how soothing and piano it is. This song is such a relaxing piece.
ReplyDeleteWhen the choir first started singing the song they came in so nice and smooth. It didn't sound rough or like they were trying to force it out or nothing it was just smooth and nice. Something I didn't like was when they were loud and all of a sudden got quiet. Another thing I don't like is how everyone keeps moving while performing. Overall I really enjoyed this performance I found it very pleasing.

The choir piece I like hearing is "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson and arranged by Ed Lojeski. It was performed by MRHS Concert Choir. It was sung with mixed voices. It was accompanied by a piano. I like how the boys, in the beginning, started off in harmony. I also like how every section balanced really well.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the performance was good overall, there are a few critiques. The tempo was a little fast, which made the words seem a little behind. The girls are strong and have their pitches right for the most part. Some pitches were a little off balance towards the end. Also there weren't many dynamic changes. It sounded like they just stayed loud the whole time. All in all, they did a good job.

The choral piece that I enjoy listening to the most is "Perfect Praise (How Excellent)" arranged by Richard Smallwood and performed by the Mississippi Mass Choir. It is for mixed voices(SATB). This song is accompanied by keyboard, piano, and drums. I like this song because I have grown up hearing this song in church and my grandma always sang it. What I like most about this song is how well the varied parts that each section has balance each other out.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the performance of the choir and I don't have any negative comments on the performance. Every part was sung clearly and it didn't sound like any part was overpowering the rest of the choir. Everything flowed smoothly throughout the song and as I stated before, the choir was well-balanced and the voices blended well together. Overall, the song was performed very well.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite choral piece is ''I Sing Because I'm Happy” by the Georgia Mass Choir. The piece was performed by the mixed voices (SABT). Also, playing drums and the piano was a great accompaniment. Overall, the balance of this piece was good. The piece has several versions of the song using similar lyrics. Also, listening to the piece brings peace touching my heart and soul.
The quality of the performance of the piece in some areas needs improvement. Perhaps, the video experienced technical difficulties because the video was very blurry lacking quality in appearance. Most of the choir lacked emotion and praise during the performance. The choir performance from the sopranos lacked blending. Crescendos and decrescendos was the best part of the performance. More articulation may improve the choir’s performance. If the choir was more enthusiastic, the performance would be a 10/10.

The choir piece I like hearing is "Circle of Life" by Tim Rice and arranged by Lebo Morake. It was performed by Ndlovu Youth Choir. It was sung by a children's choir. It was accompanied by drums, and guitar. I like how they all had good dynamics and had great choreography.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the performance was good overall, I have at least two critiques. In the beginning, some of the boys in the back had zero facial expression. Facial expressions are a major part of performing! Some parts of the choir were too overpowering and I could not hear the other sections, but overall it was an outstanding performance. I hope to listen to more from this group!

My favorite choral piece to hear is "She Sings" by Amy F. Bernon. It is sung by a SATB choral group. The accompaniment for this piece is the piano. I like this piece the most because of the the emotional background. This piece is based of a true story. One of Amy F. Bernon's students was an a amazing singer but endured abuse and never sung ever again. I feel that this song is
ReplyDeletean empowerment for all those who have experienced abuse.
The performing group i choose to critique is Micheal S. Williams and his high school concert choir. The blend between each part was very smooth and beautiful. They had good posture and there dynamics were good. Something I didn't like is during the song some of the choir members lost breath making the song sound forced. The choir also had no expression's and seemed a bit bland. Overall I enjoyed the performance even though it wasn't perfect, it sounded good for the most part.

One of my all-time favorite choral pieces is "Go, Lovely Rose," an SATB arrangement composed by Eric Whitacre. I've heard many different performances of this song, but my favorite so far has been the one done by the BYU singers. The piece is traditionally performed a capella, and is in no need of accompaniment. I love choral music already, but this one stands out to me due to its original sound. Whitacre likes to put many different notes together to create an abnormal, but beautiful tone.
ReplyDeleteAs stated above, this particular performance is the closest to perfect I have heard so far, so there are many good things to say about it; although, every performance has room for a critique. Near the beginning, there is a male solo, and the end note in his performance sounds strained--it sounds like it was a little outside his range; it seems like he makes an attempt to cover it up with an aggressive vibrato. The female's solo also sounds slightly strained, but in a good way. Her voice has a nice, Snow White-esque tone, and it is easy on the ears. All members of the choir keep their vowels round consistently throughout the entire piece. They also keep a nice musical balance between selections--no section dominates another unless it is written in the magic; for example, the two solos. The choir additionally uses extremely vibrant dynamics that add so much color to the piece. It's really an impressive performance, despite only the audio being released to the public.

My favorite choral piece has to be "Seasons of Love" from the musical rent, written by Jonathan Larson. It was sang by the Broadway Cast members from the musical. The song was accompanied by a piano and a light drum. I love this song because it is so meaningful and it sends out a good message. I love how each section was well balanced and they articulated well for the most part. I also love how they emoted throughout the song. It really set the tone during the performance
ReplyDeleteAs I said in the previous paragraph this was a very good piece. Things that I felt could have used improvement is the male parts, they tended to fade in certain points of the song such as when they said the first " five hundred twenty-five thousand", I wished they would have came out a little more. Also they could have articulated more when they said "its time now to sing out" it was a little run together and low; but other than that the performance was powerful and very touching.

My favorite choral piece that I found a week ago is called "I Feel Like A Motherless Child" by Hal Leonard arranged by Richard Burchard. This is a piece by a TTBB male choir. This piece has no music accompaniment it is a cappella. When I first found this piece and listened to it, I knew there was no going back it drew me in. I find it wonderful how the harmony is so balanced and in sync. Each section can be heard perfectly with an awesome blend between them. The pronunciation of their words are sung really well along with the soloist. It sounds beautiful all the way around and I play it nonstop in my downtime. I really recommend listening to this song.
ReplyDeleteThe tenors kept an awesome blend with the basses, it was so melodic like. I loved how the dynamics were so on point and not slow, choppy, or sluggish. Everything was so in tune and the flow was amazing. When they song the word sometimes I didn't like how the S was held for so long because it sounded like a slight hiss at times. So far this is the best choral piece I ever heard and I enjoyed this song!

The song that I chose is " Jesus Promised". The selection is by the Chicago Mass Choir. This songs are for the sections SATB. It is accompanied with drums, piano, and bass. Every time I hear this song it always gets me hyped and in a good mood.
ReplyDeleteThe choir that sung this song I do not have any critiques about. They have a very great balance between all parts. They also showed great facial expressions throughout the entire song, and even had dance moves to go with it. The tone was very strong and clear, and they had clean cut offs as well.

The song I have selected for my blog post is "Clap Your Hands and Sing". The composer is Mary Lynn Lightfoot. It is accompanied by a piano and you should also clap to add percussion and simply help out with the title. This song could be sung in 2-part or 3-part mixed. The meaning of the song is to raise a joyful noise and give praises. This song reminds me of a song that we sung about 3 years ago called "A Choral Flourish". I really like this song and hope that we could try this song this school year. I think if we were to sing this song it would sound very good because the choir this years sounds very full.
ReplyDeleteI like how the song was not so fast but still had rhythm. The music and the voices were really balanced and I was able to hear all parts. The dynamics sounded like there were perfectly placed and the choir demonstrated them well. I liked how when each time there was a clap, the words around it correlated and they were all on time. The song overall was well executed.

I chose the song ‘Who’ll Be a Witness for my Lord’ by the 2016 Leesville High School choir. It was sung in SATB voicing with two lead soloists. The song is sung a cappella. I like that the song has a twangy type of tempo and it is a gospel.
ReplyDeleteThe lead singers used precise falsettos and amazing runs, and the rest of the choir was right on top of every pitch. The only error that I might have found about the song is that the lead singer kept doing the same run. Other than that, the blend of all the vocals was just about perfect.

The song I chose is "Whatever You Want (God's Got It) by the Chicago Mass Choir. This song is for SATB. It is accompanied by piano, tambourine, electric guitar, and drums. I love this performance it just makes you want to catch the holy ghost spirit and dance until your feet fall off. Also, the choir and soloist energy were through the roof. I feel as if this would be an amazing song to do on Joy Night.
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything to say about the Chicago Mass Choir performance. I think it contained all the essential ingredients to be an amazing performance. For example, the choir had amazing energy, good blend, and balance, and they had your attention the entire performance.

One of my most favorite choral songs of all time would definitely be "Pie Jesu" by Victor C. Johnson. It is for SATB and is only accompanied by a piano. I love this song because it' s so calming and smooth when sung the right way. When all of the parts come together it makes the song more powerful, like it may have a deeper meaning. It always brings a smile to my face because it reminds me of how much trouble my class had singing their correct parts, but when we finally got it right we sounded almost angelic.
ReplyDeleteI chose the "Jasper Place Choir" and the first thing I notice is that "Jesu" is incorrectly pronounced because of incorrect vowel sounds. Though they did have a great volume throughout the performance. When the boys come in they don't blend well with the other parts, and the altos are barely heard because of this. Their posture was great and they stood relatively still. I personally believe that they could've used more dynamics and the sopranos could've properly breathed to hit those high notes within the first few parts. Overall, they seem to be a good choir, but there are a few things they need to work on.

One of my favorite choral songs to listen to is "Take it to The Lord in Prayer" by Nolan Williams Jr. . This song is arranged for SATB. In the specific version I love to listen to is by The Aeolians of Oakwood University. The choir is accompanied by a piano. The pianist accompanist really plays with and not against the choirs various tones and articulations in certain parts of the song. I really like how the person playing the piano compliments the blend and balance of the choir. I also like how the sopranos and altos had the melody towards the end of the song and how the "oohs" at the end of the song can be pronunced and loud just like the words in the song. The tenors really blended with the female parts of the song, not bring to overbearing but also still having their own melody on certain phrases in the song like "he's there." I wish the tenors and the male section could have gad more parts like that.

One of my favorite choral songs is "We Go Together" performed by the UCHS choir. It is accompanied by a piano. This song is arranged for a SATB choir. The song is composed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. I love this song because it makes me cheerful when I hear it.
ReplyDeleteThe choir had a little problem they need to fix. One thing i noticed was that during one part the girl did not blend in with her section. Also during the part when they where dancing in the circle some people look a little lost. These are easy to fix it m y take a little time to fix. Other then that they were good.

One of my favorite choir pieces is "I pray we'll all be ready" performed by the Chicago mass choir. This song was arranged for a SATB choir. I like this song because it fully explains why we need to be ready for the Lord's return and what the results will be if we are or aren't ready. I think the choir blended really well together and it was overall very balanced.

One choir piece i enjoy hearing is "Rewrite The Stars" from the Greatest Showman. The song has mixed voices with the ladies and men. The accompaniment that we have in my choir class is a piano played by Mr.Williams. I like this piece because it is a different style of music that i have never done before. The baritone and tenor parts sound beautiful and the different ranges it goes to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52D6jfDPxgM In this performance, the choir seems to have no good blend or balance. While watching this choir, i heard the tenors the most. i couldn't hear altos or sopranos at all. that did not look good at all, especially since there were more girls than guys. However, whenever the guys noticed they were too loud they adjusted their tone so the girls could be heard. This provided good balance.
ReplyDeleteThis piece i am writing about is called "homeward bound". the arranger is jay althouse. this a SATB performance. the accompaniment is a piano. i really enjoyed this piece because i didnt really have any bad things to write about it. i could only see good things. the vowels were really well rounded in the beginning of the song, they sounded unified. i could hear the sopranos clearly. it was a part that was really loud and transitioned clear to a soft sound. all parts were really well blended. also the men were had a good volume.
ReplyDeletealthough it was was a lot of good comments there were only a few bad things going on. i couldn't really hear the altos unless i wasnt really listening for them. i only heard sopranos, base, and tenor. also i couldnt really understand what they were saying, but i understood the soloist.

One choir piece that I enjoy hearing is "Circle of Life" from the Lion King. I like this song because of the many phrases we have to sing and having to learn lyrics from a different language. We sing using Mr.Williams accompaniment with the piano. I like how each of the parts has its own tone throughout the piece. The balance of the sopranos, altos, tenors, and bass is what I like the most about the piece.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of performance I believe that all of choir blends well with each other. The blend of the alto and soprano parts is what I like the most. Only thing I could see a problem with the performance is the use of articulation and dynamics. Besides that, the whole song sounds pretty amazing. Overall, the whole performance of the song is pretty good and blends and sounds well.

One choir piece that I enjoy singing is the " Circle of Life" in the Lion King movie. I like this song because of the meaning behind it and because I love African songs. I sing with BTW's choir with the accompaniment of Mr. Williams and his piano. I like how each section alto, soprano, tenor, and bass have their own tone and come together and blend with each other which makes a beautiful sound.
ReplyDeleteIn this song each section is blending the whole time. The only problem I see with performing this song is each section staying on their note and knowing their note. other than that I feel like this song would be enjoyed by whomever watched the performance.

My favorite choral piece would have to be "When I Sing" by Rosephanye Powell. This particular piece is a women's ensemble. I like it because I helped Dr. Powell composed it with my 8th grade choir class. The dynamics in this piece are distributed , and the accompaniment is a mixture of different abstract instruments like shakers, triangles, and drums. The balance and blend in this piece are absolutely beautiful. I say this because of the different harmonization within the song.
ReplyDeleteIn the particular link, all voices sounded very well balanced. On the other hand the performance that I took part in went out of tune. The altos were too heavy and the sopranos did not carry their pitch well. The dynamics weren't emphasised on particular phrases throughout the song. Overall the piece itself is a very beautiful song.
