  1. Hello all, my name is Timothy Brannon. I am currently 16 years old, and although I am a junior, this is my second year at BTW. I like all types of music because I like to have a good feeling for variety in how others express themselves. I've been singing since before I could talk. I have sang on both the teen and adult praise teams, as well as both the teen and adult choirs at my church since I was 13 years old. I attended Carver Elementary Arts & Magnet School for 2nd-5th grade, where I performed many times for the Choral and Drama magnets. I also played the 3/4 upright double bass during my 3rd grade year, and while in the 4th grade, I participated in the 2014 Honor Choir. In 9th grade, I performed the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Hello” by Adelle at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory High School’s 2018 Coffee House Talent Show. Last year, I performed numerous times with both the BTW Choral and Musical Theatre magnets. One of the most memorable would be BTW Showcase 2019, where I was included in four pieces, including “Your Feet's Too Big” by Fats Waller. I don’t have a favorite song since I listen to a wide variety of music, however, if I had to possibly narrow it down to two songs, they would be “Your Great Name” by Todd Dulaney and “Have Mercy” by Eryn Allen Kane.

  2. Hey guys, My name is Sani'yah Braxter. I am 15 years old. I'm a sophomore and this is my second year at BTW. I don't necessarily have a favorite type of music. I listen to whatever type of music matches my mood at the time. I've been singing my entire life. I grew up singing in my church choir and in school choirs. My first performance was at age 6 in the Black History performance at church. From singing, acting and dance I've evolved into the performer I am today. I don't necessarily have a favorite song but if I had to pick it would have to be "Untold Stories" by NBA youngboy.

  3. Hello my name is MiracleGrace Williams I am 15 years old. I am currently a sophomore and this is my second year at BTW. My favorite type of music is pop and K-pop music and it is my favorite because I can make my own silly dance to it and it is really fun and different to listen to. Some musical experience i have had in the past is all-state and a couple of solos at my old middle school I also danced well I still do dance. My favorite song is "Pied Piper" by a k-pop called BTS. This music also helps me concentrate on my work or put me in a better mood if I am annoyed or mad or irritated or even sad. But nice to meet everyone.

  5. Hey everyone! My name is Asia Robinson and I am 14 years old. I am also a freshman at BTW, which makes this my first year here. My favorite type of music is R&B, preferably old school, because I believe that it has more meaning and more emotion than most genres. I began professionally singing at the age of 4 for my church choir and gradually moved on to singing for Garrett Elementary’s choir. I have also performed in many seasonal choir and drama performances at Baldwin Arts and Academics Magnet School. My favorite performance of all time would have to be the Spring musical that was held during my 8th grade year because it included my first real solo. My favorite song would have to be “Nothing Even Matters” by Lauryn Hill.

  6. Hi, my name is Serena Waters and I am fifteen years old and this is my second year at BTW. My favorite genre of music is R&B. R&B is the type of music that is real and can give many emotions. I really started singing when I was around 5. I got my first solo at Brewbaker during my kindergarten graduation, singing our song. This was when I realized that I actually loved to sing because when I was younger I did many activities. From then on, I have been singing ever since. Currently, my favorite song is" Honesty" by Pink Sweat$. I am very excited to get to know each and every one of you and I hope you all have a great year!

  7. Hello my fellow choral members! My name in the system is Meredith Hataway, but most people call me Eliana (Ehl/ee/ah/nuh) or Ellie. I am in the GRADUATING CLASS OF 2020 *insert various cheers* and this is my fourth year of sporting that yellowjacket title. My absolute favorite genre of music is Broadway because it doesnt have a standard outline to follow in regards to length or range. Broadway also is an amazing outlet for me because whenever I am having a rough day, I turn on my music and belt everything away.
As far as musical experiences go, I really started singing when I was in 4th grade. I was put in Bear's choir and from that day forward- choir was my happy place. I became enthralled with the way harmonies fit with everything else and how the accompaniment was able to put everything together, however (and this is directed towards Mr. M. E. Williams) this does NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES mean that I enjoy theory. Eighth grade was my first "real" experience though, I was selected to be in the All-State Choir; it was an absolutely amazing experience and I would lpove to do it again. My favorite Song really depends on what I want to listen to, if I am feeling positive I would probably listen to "The Next Ten Minutes Ago" from R&H's Cinderella and The Last Five Years. But that is more of a slower song so if I want something upbeat I'd go for something from the musicals "Something Rotten" or "The Prom." These songs are not set in stone as my "favorite" though, because that is frankly offensive to the theatre realm to pick one show, much less one song.
*DISCLAIMER: I know this entire post is extra but if there is one thing to know about me, its that I am EXTRA*

  14. Hi, my name is Marti Baine and I am 14 years old. This is my freshman year at BTW . My favorite type of music is Hip-Hop.It is my favorite type of music mainly because of the feeling I get from hearing the gritty yet realistic lyrics of the time we live in and how the environment most people live in isn’t the ideal environment to live in. Some of the musical experiences that I have had were performing in elementary and middle school choir. Also, I have performed pieces on the piano in elementary and middle school. My favorite song honestly is “Before I Let Go” by Franklin Beverly And Maze.

My favorite type of music is all music to be honest, but if i had to choose which one i listened to the most, it would be Christian/Gospel and....Country. I absolutely love country music and I love Gospel even more, not only because that's what i grew up on, but i like those genres because they are amazing. I've been singing for as long as i can remember. i started my grandmas church with my sisters as a group (3 sisters who are all older than me, i'm the youngest) we went to different churches and since my parents are pastors, our talents definitely got put in the spotlight a lot. we sung at nursing homes for the people there and we often sang whenever we felt lead to in hospitals. Two of my favorite songs are, "For Your Glory" by Tasha Cobbs and "Make Room" Jonathan Mcreynolds.

I have always loved music and I guess I started singing around the age of 3. I started performing in the choir at Resurrection Catholic School when I was in 2nd Grade. I also sing in the choir at church, it's a CME church so I like to sing solos on Christmas, Mother's Day, and Easter (*it's just humor).

Hip Hop- Yk Osiris' "Worth It"

When a song is unique and unlike any other song I've heard before it automatically becomes my favorite. I've had a love for all music since i was a baby. In the past I would sing at funerals and church events every time my grandmother made me. Other than that I used to be a part of a music making group in which we would perform at different events. I love making music with instruments such as the piano as well. I do not have a favorite song but the most recent songs that I've frequently listened to are "Paper Planes" by M.I.A and "Better Dayz" by Tupac Shakur.

My favorite types of music are mostly R&B, Hip Hop, Soul, and my absolute favorite type is called lo-fi hip hop! It's an underrated genre of music, but it's hip hop but more toned down and chilled. I usually listen to several playlists of it when I'm doing my homework or studying. My choral journey began in 7th grade at Johnnie R. Carr Middle School when I unwillingly got put into choir as an elective. At first I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but now I'm in love with it! During my two years of it the infamous Carr Choraliers won several first places including the Alabama National Fair Choral Competition and the Peanut Festival as well. We were also invited to sing at Troy University for their annual Black History Month program for two years in a row. We also traveled to Florida to participate in the Universal Studios Music USA choral competition and we also won for two years in a row. I have many favorite songs but my top four are Resonance by HOME, Sunflower by Swae Lee ft. Post Malone, Can't Hold Us by Macklemore ft. Ray Dalton, and Statues by Eden. All of these songs never fail to put me in a good mood or help me cope through hard times. I hope to have many great times and experiences with you all!

  39. Hello fellow songbirds and future stars! I’m Veronica Conely, and I’m a senior. I’m 17 years old, and this is my 4th year at B.T.W. magnet high school. I don’t necessarily have a top genre of music that I love over others; I really just like anything with a distinct melody in it. I have been singing in choirs since I was 3 years old, though a bunch of children singing doesn’t always give off the best sound. At Baldwin, I sang in the Madrigal choir, and I was actually pretty shy to sing in front of people; in fact, the idea of singing solos in front of a large audience was entirely out of the question. However, during my sophomore year here at B.T.W., I decided it was time for a change. Now, I regularly sing solos at pops and showcase. I’ve also performed around Montgomery with the B.T.W. Tri-M Music Honor Society, as well as participated in the Alabama SATB All-State choir. My favorite song changes daily; however, just today, I found an a cappella piece composed by Eric Whitacre called “I carry your heart,” and it’s really one of those works that you have to listen to all the way through to really capture the true beauty of the piece.

  41. Hello Everyone!! My name is Asha Knight. I’m 17 years old and I have attended BTW for 4 years. My favorite type of music would probably be R&B. I gravitate more towards 90’s R&B, but I like all types. Since this is my senior year of high school, I have had so many experiences that it would be quite tedious to list them all. However, I have one particular memory of performing with the choir that has really stuck with me all these years. It is when we sang “Melodies from heaven” at POPS freshman year. I just remember I had so much fun doing that song and it was the moment I think I really started to like being in the choir. My favorite song at the moment is “Otherside” by BeyoncĂ©. I’m loving this song right now because BeyoncĂ©’s voice is just so soothing and resonate on this song. Plus, the end part of the song when she sings in Swahili is just incredible. The vocal range and pronunciation of complex African words presented in that one small section of the song is just simply exquisite and well executed. I hope all of you have a great school year.

  42. Hello class, my name is Kiera Hall. I am fifteen years old and I've been at BTW for two years now. The only experience I have with singing is being in musical theatre and singing in church. I've been in musical theatre for two years and we sing almost everyday and I've been singing in my church choir since I was 8. I don't really have a favorite song because I love listening to music. But there's this song called "I pray we'll all be ready" and I listen to it frequently because it's so uplifting.

  43. Hello class, my name is Kobe White. I am 16 years old, and I am a returning junior. This is just my second year at BTW and I am enjoying every minute of it. My favorite type of music is rap, it's not trap music just simple old rap. I like rap, because it's very cool how people can put poetry to a beat, and now it's called a song. I've had a couple of musical experiences. My first one was when I took drum lessons at this camp back when I was a little kid. Another musical experience I had was when I took vocal and piano lessons. The last musical experience that I ever had was when I was in the band from the 7th to the 8th grade. My favorite song is called Middle Child by J Cole.

  46. Hey y’all, my name is Faith Gatson and I am 16 years old. I’ve been A student at Booker T Washington Magnet High since my freshman year, my favorite type of music is Gospel because it’s very relatable and my favorite style to sing. I have been a participant at Alabama State University’s theatre camp for the past 10 years and now i am a worker for the 6-12 year old camp because of all the love and responsibility I showed while being a camper. I found my zeal for singing at two years old and ever since then my love for it has been unconditional. I sung at the Monster Truck Show, I was in my first professional play last fall entitled “Four Little Girls” and we got lots of publicity. My favorite song in the different genres I like include the following:

Kurt Carr & Singers: For every mountain

Jazmine Sullivan: In love with another man

  48. Hii, I’m so sorry I am a little behind with the post. Today was my first tile hearing about the blogposts. Anywho, my name is Morriah Gordon. I am seventeen years old and this is my second year at BTW Magnet as a senior. My favorite artist are Nao and 6lack. I love the fact they bring a chill vibe to their music as well as soul. I am extremely shy about my voice and I joined choir to really help me build my confidence in my voice and as an overall person. So far, I have really enjoyed dancing and meeting new people. My favorite song by Nao is lifetime. This song has a more personal connection, not in a love perspective but as a young individual that has dreams to accomplish and I’d hope to reach my goals someday.
