It's My Birthday!

On this blog post, you need to look for songs that where released on your birthday or in the month of your birthdate. The year must match the year you were born. Check the top 100 or Billboard charts for the year you were born. You might be lucky to find one for your date. Include a link to the video and discuss something about the song you have found. You may have to do a little research to find out more information. Spelling and grammar count in addition to the post being at least 1 full paragraph. Due by Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:59 pm.

  1. The album "By the Way" by Red Hot Chili Peppers came out on July 9, 2002. The song I chose from this album is called "Minor Thing." I chose this song because the rhythm is upbeat and catchy, and the lyrics just seem to have an "in your face" type message. The melody played on the guitar is complicated and it draws you into the song itself. The different melodies on multiple instruments blend together, and it creates a sense of unity in the song to offset the vocal harmonies in the background.

  3. Independent Woman Part I by Destiny's Child was released on September 14, 2000. I like this song because it suggests the power of a woman who doesn’t need a man to depend on to buy her everything or control what she does and doesn’t do. The song is very upbeat and makes you want to dance along to it. I also like the little slow breakdown they do towards the end where they harmonize and Beyonce adlibs. Their voices are in perfect harmony and sound really nice with the shaker in the back. I found out that although there are 4 voices in the song, one of the members was kicked out before the video was shot, so there are only 3 in it.

  4. I was born in June of 2001. During this time, there weren’t that alot of hits out. A song that did come out that I enjoy was Lady Marmalade. This song is by 4 talented artists which include Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink. This is one of the best remakes of the song by the living legend herself Patti Labelle. Hearing all the different vocals especially including one of my favorite vocalists Christina was amazing. It is a great love story type of song. I appreciate how the song is so different and this is one of my favorites.

  5. I was born August 28, 2002. “Dont Mess With My Man” was released on August 25, 2002 by Nivea feat. Jagged Edge. This song was very popular in the early 2000s. I like this version with Jagged Egde in it. The background kinda of sounds like a ringtones that somebody would have in the early 2000s. Nivea stated that her man was hers and you couldn't have him so you should go find your own. If you did mess with her man she would hurt you or probably fight you. I never thought about the songs that were been played around the time that I was being born so I really appreciate the blog post so I could do research.

  6. I was born February 14,2004.I couldn't really find a song that was released during my birth month except The Way You Move by Outkast ft Sleepy Brown . I enjoy the song because the chorus is really catchy. I didn't even recognize this song until I heard this chorus because I heard it a cookout before with my family. Also, I didn't know that Big Boi was apart of Outkast which was another reason why enjoyed this song because i enjoyed seeing Big Boi on one of my favorite tv shows Star.

  7. 17 years ago on April 26,2001 my mother gave birth to me. Two days earlier on the 24th Janet Jackson released her entire album “All For You” and the most popular song “All For You” was taking off on the charts. The song is a fun dance track about moving your body and basically everything she is doing is all for you. Janet’s signature whisper voice, choker look, and vivacious beat make the track an absolute hit. Listening to the song makes me feel like the song and album are dedicated entirely to me.

  9. I was born on June 20, 2002. On June 25, 2002, Nelly and Kelly Rowland released the song "Dilemma". I love this song because it talks about how even though you act like you don’t love that person you really do on the inside. The beat of this song really makes you want to get up dance. My favorite part of this song is when Nelly is rapping.

  11. My birthday is October 08,2001. On October 30,2001 Michael Jackson released a song called "Invincible". It is a pop style song that is very catchy and you can dance to it.The song includes a small rap verse to give it that hip-hop feel. Invincible explores themes such as love, romance, isolation, media criticism, and social issues, kind of like many songs today, making it relatable to so many.

  13. My birthday is January 9, 2003. I couldn't find any song that was released on my birthday yet along in January. The song I've chosen is Come Get Some by Tlc. While a music video was never produced, the song was performed a few times. The song's intro was performed on the season finale of American Idol in May 2011. A minor commercial success, it peaked at number 81 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

  15. My birthday is May 4, 2001. I cry by Ja Rule ft. Lil'mo was released in May 2001. My sisters used to always talk about Ja Rule, and I remember him being in a movie. I never listened to his music until now. I like it a lot. It reminds me of Biggie kinda because the subtleness and girl background vocals. This is the music you can always vibe too. We need to bring this type of music back.

  16. My birthday is December 8, 2000. One Woman Man by Dave Hollister was released in December 2000. Thinking back, I do not think I ever heard of him, but this song sound very familiar. It sound like those blues songs my played while I was growing up. I like the drums and the simplicity of the entire song. Back then life seemed so easy and stress free.

  17. My birthday is on March 29,2002. "Happy" by Ashanti was released in 2002. It is a nice R&B song;however, there are no melodic changes or transitions in the music. Moreover, there is also is no clear bridge or clear transition between the verses and chorus. The song pretty much sounds the same during its full duration. "Happy" is about the happiness that one feels when they're in love. In conclusion, "Happy" by Ashanti was released in 2002.

  18. One of the top songs on the billboard charts during 2003 was "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce Ft. Jay-Z. This was the only familiar song I saw. It is really lively and entertaining. The beginning is attention drawing because of the beat. Beyonce has a naturally beautiful voice so she sounded wonderful of course as usual.Jay -Z did good too but I'm not as familiar with him as I am with Beyonce because in my opinion her parts were the better parts. There was a harmony towards the end and it was awesome. And we all know Beyonce can DANCE, she definitely killed it. As I said previously the song is very attention grabbing and catchy and overall a fun song to listen to.

  19. I was born on August 19,2003. The song that came out during my birth month was "Crazy in Love" by Beyonce' ft. Jay-Z. I like this song because Beyonce' really showed out with her dance moves, outfits, and the type of attitude she had during the whole song. Jay-Z was ok, but it was all about Beyonce'. This song is a song that just turns you into a different person when singing it.

  21. My birthday is February 22nd, 2002. The most popular song of that particular month of the year was "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback. The message behind the song is about how Brandon Kroeger, the lead singer, is going through a rough time with his wife. She thinks apologizing will fix the problem, but in reality, Brandon is the one doing her wrong. What makes this song appealing to me is the early 2000's emo sound to it which makes some people laugh in this day and age.

  22. I was born on January 29,2001. The song that came out during that year was "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys. The message behind the song is that she is falling in and out of love with someone. You can just sing this around your house like nobody is there. Her voice has a richness to it which makes her stand out. This song really put Alicia Keys apart from other artists.

  24. The song I originally chose is "More than a woman" by Aaliyah. This song was released the year of 2001. The song is on the billboard year-end hot 100 singles of 2002. Aaliyah passed away in a plane crash (2001) a year before her song actually hit the charts. The song was number 58 on the billboard. I had to change the song chosen because it was not released the year I was born but it made the top 100 the year of 2002. I have lastly chosen "I miss you" which is also by Aaliyah. It was released in the album "I care 4 u" on December 10, 2002. I like most of Aaliyah's songs because they all speak a message. Aaliyah was a prodigy in the R&B world and still is today.

  25. I chose "Just a Friend" by Mario which was released in 2002. I had heard this song before, but never actually listened to it or knew what it was. This song no joke speaks real life facts. Although the way the message is carried out is kind of glorified, there are actually people going through this specific situation. The song is just inspiring on different levels.
