POPS Performances

As we prepare for POPS concert later this month, let's look at famous concert performances. Choose whatever genre you want (preferably something that you are not already too familiar with) and post a performance from that singer or group. There are so many groups and performers to choose from that there should be no problem finding one. No duplicate posts or performers are allowed. Post early. Keep in mind that this does not limit one to only popular music. There are many choral, dance, jazz, band, and other styles or instruments that you can choose from. Be creative! Check spelling and grammar before posting. All posts need to be at minimum 5 complete sentences. If your post is too basic, it will be deleted and you will have to start again. All posts are due by Friday, September 8, 11:59 PM. No late posts are accepted.

Here is my example. You cannot duplicate this performer now. Please note how I wrote in complete sentences, varying the sentence type and structure so that my reader did not become bored. Your posts should resemble this.

This video is interesting to me for several reasons. First, I love the fact that Alicia Keys plays and sings well together! Most performers either are excellent in one or the other, but not many are capable of doing both. Second, the song is one that is very memorable. I can remember being a younger piano student, wanting to learn her music and be successful at doing so. Third, making a song that is intended to be a solo a duet is ingenious. The way the two completely different voices work together in harmony is absolutely amazing.

  1. Straight No Chaser is an all male A Capella group that I enjoy listening to not only because they are extremely talented, but they clearly have fun in their performances. They show that they clearly enjoy what they do through their choreography and facial expressions. They interact with the audience and with each other which makes them even more entertaining to watch. They blend extremely well and they own up to their ability, or non-ability I should say, to dance well. Overall, I enjoy watching their performances and hearing them sing.

  2. This video is interesting because of many reasons. Their chemistry together is the main one to me. While Ariana is singing you can tell that she is talking directly to Big Sean. Her tone and her runs are out of this world and they come so effortlessly. Big Sean also has a very nice flow which makes the song easier to listen to.I think the like version sounds better honestly. I really enjoy this song and hope they can make some more songs together.

  3. I LOVE SELENA QUINTANILLIA! She is one of the most talented musicians i have ever heard. Her voice is so versatile! In this performance she sung so many different songs, but sounded amazing. And her stage performance is extraordinary! I'm amazed at how she can dance with so much energy while singing and in HIGH HEELS! She is so talented and her voice is incredible!

  4. I chose Jagged Edge live performance on BET for this week's blogpost. I chose this one because Jagged Edge is one of my favorite male R&B groups. I love this video because of their harmonies and their style. They loved baggy loose clothes. Their energy on stage when they began and out the entire performance was amazing. If I was bobbing my head and dancing to the performance just watching the video, then I know the real live thing was great!

  5. Miguel is one of my favorite artists and musicians. I chose his performance of "Waves", which is a single off of his album Wildheart, because I really admire how free he is when performing live. This performance serves as the perfect example. Not only is he comfortable with doing the most awkward moves that weirdly portray the feelings created by the lyrics, but he also has a very large vocal range that he is both comfortable and confident in. Each of his performances exude confidence making them all the more exciting to watch.

  7. I just wished I grew up in the 90's. The music from this time period was the best! The music from ALL genres was good. I narrowed my song choice to Whatta Man by Salt n Peppa ft. En Vogue. These groups are sensational by themselves, but when they came together on this song it was like magic. The harmonizing with En Vogue in the chorus, and Salt n Peppa with their lit verses. It is such a catchy song. All it takes is for me to her the little intro to the song and I will be on my feet dancing. As I am typing this, I am singing "Whatta Man Whatta Man Whatta Mighty good man. YES HE IS!' If you have not heard this song you are really missing out.

  9. Micheal Jackson has always been know for his interest in making mainstream music more theatrical by telling a story through some of his music videos such as Thriller,Bad, and Ghost. This performance is just purely amazing. I know that I was not expecting the sweet Micheal Jackson to shoot a machine gun on stage. I admire his want to give people good music and performance. One of the great elements was the live band. When ho was shooting the machine gun the drums made the sounds for each shot as well as they could. Overall the performance was amazing and very thrilling.

  10. Beyonce has always been one of my favorite singers. Her live performances are the best to me because she she takes the songs that she sing and she turns them into different version every time she sings them. One of my favorite live performances from her is when she performed at the Super Bowl in 2016. In that performance she performed with her friends which are Kelly and Michelle. The performance itself was very entertaining to watch and Beyonce gave high energy the whole time. Overall the performance was amazing.

  11. The LEMONADE era is probably one of my favorite sides of Beyonce. She was so raw and apologetically black. My favorite song from the album was Freedom featuring Kendrick Lamar. The song itself was amazing but when she performed it it made me love the song even more. My favorite part was when her and Kendrick were in sync for a few seconds during the performance. Enjoy!

In this song he sounded very emotional referring that he was thinking about someone and he wondered if they still thought about him.He is my favorite pop singer also.I loved the whole performance and i hope you will as well.

  13. “There’s a breakthrough..In this room..it's got my name on it”Tasha sang to her audience. The performance I chose was “Put A Praise On It” by Tasha Cobbs. I chose that song because to me Tasha Cobbs is a very inspirational Gospel singer. Mainly, I love how she has so much control over her voice and such a wide range. Tasha keeps her crowd involved while still putting on a great performance. Watching her encourages me to always give my all WHENEVER I perform

  14. Now I have many reasons as to why I chose the performance "Purple Rain" by the greatest of all time Prince. The main reason is that I think it's cool how it started raining while he was singing Purple Rain at Super Bowl XLI in 2007. Secondly, when I listen to the song Purple Rain, it makes me think about a relationship ending. "I never meant to cause you any sorrow, I never meant to cause you any pain." The third reason why I chose this song is because Prince's guitar solo is amazing! The "Prince symbol" guitar gives a good sound to me. Prince's guitar is in the form of a symbol he made himself; the Love Symbol. So I hope you love this performance of him.

  16. Stevie Wonder is one of the best soul singers I have ever heard. One of my favorite songs that he has ever performed is " I Wish". I love that song because it always gets me in a dancing mood and makes me happy. This songs reminds me of my elementary days when I wish could go back and actually live life. I hope you enjoy this performance!

  17. This performance was marvelous the first time I saw it and still is till this day. Selena was the kind of performer who could hold both her dance moves and voice in tact throughout the whole performance. She did not run out of breathe nor did she ever stop moving. Through this whole performance, along with the cute outfit, Selena gave her fans something worth paying for. In this modern day performance world you don't usually get this kind of active performance out of an artist, this is why I enjoy her music/performances so much and I hope you enjoy it as well!!!

  18. This video is a performance of Chris Brown live singing the song "Run It". I love this for so many reasons. First of all, I LOVE CHRIS BROWN! That's point, blank, period and he such a great performer. He has beautiful vocals that are excellent and not only that, but he is an amazing dancer. He is so talented and gifted, he taught himself how to dance and he is just as experienced as a dancer who has been training for years. On top of that he is able to sing and do hard fast beat choreography at the same time. That is just pure gold and timeless. This is what makes Chris Brown my favorite and all his performances.

  21. This performance I chose is of Fantasia performing "I'm doin' me" I chose this song because I love Fantasia!!. She is one of the first people I remember listening to as a kid. She was also one of the main reasons I started singing. Anyway,I love the song for two reasons. One reason is that its just a catchy song. It's hard not to get stuck in your head and sing all day. The other reason is because I like the message. She says in the song "Sometimes as women we give more than we should". Thats why i love this song.

  22. The performance I chose is SZA performing "Love Galore" and "The Weekend" at the 2017 BET Awards. I have been following SZA for a very long time now and I am glad she is finally getting the recognition that she deserves. This performance showed off her vocal range with less emphasizes on clothing and choreography. It seemed as if she was just hanging out enjoying herself and letting the music take everyone on a musical trip.

  23. The genre I've chosen to do is blues. The artist name is Tucka. The song I listened to by him was "Candyland". I always thought that blues was something similar to country but it's really not at all. After listening to that one song, it made me want to go listen to other artist that are blues singers.

  24. The song and songwriter that i selected was, Someone Like You, by Adele. I choose this performance because of the emotion and felling that she sung with during this performance. Whenever she sings, she puts lots of feeling into her songs with the lyrics. This one was just different, not only did the lyrics have meaning but while singing the song, she started crying. This alone shows the passion and love that she puts into her music. The song was written to touch the hearts of others, but because of the amazing song writing that she displayed, it touched hers.

  25. The performance I chose is One Direction performing "Best Song Ever" on the Today Show. I enjoyed how they were energetic on stage. They interacted with the crowd and with each other. They did not have specific choreography which made everyone in the crowd want to get up and dance along with them. I am very sad that they broke up because they had great stage presences. I hope one day they will reunite for one last time.

  26. The performance I chose is Demi Lovato performing "Sorry not Sorry" at the 2017 VMA's. Demi Lovato is such an underrated singer to me. Many people just view her as a disney channel star, but this song showed that she was not just an actress but also a beautiful singer. Demi showed that she could hit those high notes not only on the track but also on the stage. Some artist can't do that. I loved her confidence throughout this performance, just watching it made you wish you were there.

  28. The performance that I choose to do is my favorite singer of all time Jazmine Sullivan. When she performed her album "Reality Show" at a Summer Stage Concert. I love her voice so much and to me she is very inspirational. Her voice really calms me down and whenever I am upset or stressed I just put on one of songs and listen to her runs, her deep voice, and her easy adlibs. Along with the actual beats and melodies in the music she rips through the runs as if its nothing. I admire her as a singer because of her incredible vocal range and hope that one day I can sing as half as good as her.

  30. This week I chose something very different. I have told some people but not everyone knows that I like K-Pop. K-Pop is very fun and happy to me. Not many people understand why I like it because I cannot understand what they are saying. I like the energy of the members. With that being said, I chose the group EXO. This song is very pop-like and is called "XOXO". The energy that the group has with the crowd is great. It looks like they are enjoying themselves and just having fun. That is the reason why I enjoy them so much, they just seem natural. The only reason why I chose this is because you wanted something different. LOL

  31. A performance that I like is by Tamela Man. I really like when she performed her song "Take me to the King" on Sunday Best because it is one of the many gospel songs that I do love, and the fact that she sings it is a plus. I have always been a big fan of Tamela's since I could remember and I love all of her music. Her powerful voice along with her powerful lyrics really speak to me in a way that lets me know everything will be okay. I hope one day I may get to meet her and she even lets me sing with her that would be a really nice dream come true.

  32. A performance that I like is by Xscape. I really like when they performed the song "Understanding". I like the song because they harmonize very well which gave them that old school vibe. The part of the song I love the most was when Kandi hit that high note at the end made me speechless. Even though they just got back together I was very familiar with the group because my mom played it alot. It was one of her favorite groups. All their music is still popping. Although they are a old school group their still significant today.

Rise up to me is not only a really good song but an inspiration to me because it gives me some encouragement to never give up. This song is very memorable and I feel that in a few years we still will be singing it because of how powerful it is. Andra Day has such a beautiful voice and these lyrics really just empower that even more because of how strong it is. I love this song and I could listen to it and instantly feel calm.

Hearing Tasha's voice could send chills down your spine because she sings so beautiful. Her voice is so powerful and strong that it could fill a large room without the microphone. If she were ever to perform in Montgomery I would defiantly go to see her.

  35. One of the greatest rappers of all time is Tupac. Tupac influenced many young individuals through his music. Although Tupac was very inspirational he had his moments where he would stray from trying to educate. I have much respect for Biggie but my favorite live performance of Tupac is when he performed "Hit em up". The song is funny and has a ton of energy. Tupac really showed how upset he was and showed a bit of immature but overall it was an all time hit.

My favorite performance is by Cardi B, and the song is Bodak Yellow. This video is my favorite for multiple reasons, she is giving off a lot of energy when she is rapping. Which keeps the audience involved and hyped during the performance. Cardi remains true to herself and that is what I like about her, she never pretends to be something she’s not. She might be a little hood or whatever, but she does not care how other people view her. You can see that, in the way she presents herself in the song. I also, love the vibe that she gives off. She is just an amazing artist to me!

  37. For this week’s blogpost, I have chosen to do Alessia Cara’s performance at the 2017 VMAs of “Scars to Your Beautiful”. This was a good performance because while singing she takes off all of things that society puts pressure on girls to have. I love the message that she gives in the song. I think she is a great role model for young girls to look up to even though she is young herself. I love Alessia because her music is relatable and she has a beautiful voice.

Charles Jenkins’ performance of the song, My God is Awesome, would have to be my favorite. The entire performance just speaks volume to me! I watch the performance of this song all the time. I like the message that the performers give, through the lyrics. Charles had an enormous amount of energy in this video, and that is what I really enjoyed about it. The crowd, was also deeply touched, and involved in the video too. This song will remain my favorite for a long time!

  39. My favorite performance was Logic's performance at the VMAs featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid. The song they performed was titled 1-800-273-8255. The performance moved me greatly not just because of the song itself but because of the brief speech he did afterward on equality. The song to me is very moving because its about suicide and how if you're going through depression and having those type of thoughts you're not alone. The phone number in the title of the song is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. https://youtu.be/BLe1dddgZrg

  40. One of my favorite performances was Josh Grogan and Brian McKnight’s version of Bridge Over Troubled Water. I especially enjoy this adaptation because both of their voices harmonize especially well with each other. I also enjoy the composition of the song and how it incorporates both singers. I especially enjoy this song because both singers are very well talented and impact a lot of people. I have listen to the song many times and I will enjoy listening to it many more times.

This was a very memorable performance, as I've listened and watched this video multiple times!

One of my favorite performances is by Adele (Live at the Church Studios) in this particular performance video she is singing one of her hit songs "When We Were Young" The reason being that, this is one of my favorite performances by Adele because when she sings this, it is visibly touching and it truly feels feels like she is telling a story. You can really feel the passion of her voice and it really touches my heart. This particular performance really shows me when your singing a song, to embody it and tell a story to your audience and give as much feeling to whatever song your singing and do your best every time. https://youtu.be/DDWKuo3gXMQ

I chose none other than the infamous Whitney Houston. She not only is a talented entertainer, actress, and performer, but her vocals, untouched. I the live performance that I have chosen is "Every Woman." If you don't know this song, baby, how are you living? Anytime Ms. Houston sang, it was phenomenal beyond measures. She will always be a role model for me especially because singing is a passion of mine. I love her and I always will.
