Country and Western

This week we are looking at country/western music. There are many similarities between Country music and other genres (particularly R&B) and most people who like one will like the other. Pick your favorite Country song and write about the following: 1) why you like the song, 2) what instruments are used, 3) what makes the song sound like country and western (there are specific things that achieve this sound), 4) how this song or style of song is similar to another style. Make sure to check your post for grammar, spelling, and include a link to your video in your comments. No duplicate videos allowed and all posts must be made by Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:59 pm. No late posts accepted.

Here is one song that I like. You cannot repost this song.

  1. This week I chose "You Belong to Me" by Taylor Swift. I will forever like this song. It was the first song I heard really country like. I like the use of the drums and guitars. The transition from verse to chorus sounds really good. Her voice and her accent manes sound country. And of course when you hear Taylor Swift you think of country. It sounds like pop because the upbeat feel and excitement she have in the video. This song is really good.

  2. The song I chose is "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. We sung this song in our middle school choir and I have liked it ever since. It has such a deep meaning and is one of the few country musics that I actually listen to. He has a smooth country voice with the piano and guitar makes this song likable. It's so catchy, I'll probably have this song stuck in my head again for a while :) Definitely reccomend

  5. The song I chose for the Country Western BlogSpot is "7 Years" by Luke Graham. This song tells a nice story about him growing up. The instruments used is the piano, guitar, and drums. The reason this is a country song, is because the way the beat is made and Luke's altered voice. There is no similar style, Luke Graham has his own personal style to his music.

  6. I don't particularly enjoy country music, but one song I tend to sing along to a lot is "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood. I can't relate to this song, I simply find it fun to belt the lyrics whenever I hear it. Instruments that I hear in this song are guitar, drums and the fiddle. This song is sounds country to me because of the key (F# minor) and her "accent" the comes out on certain words that she says. This song is similar to a category of music that I call "Spiteful Ex's." This category of music of mine includes songs that are about ex's (of any kind) wanting revenge.

  8. The song that I chose was " Lonely Tonight" by Blake Shelton featuring Ashley Monroe. I like this song because I can really truly understand the meaning of this song. The instruments they use in the song are a acoustic guitar, classical guitar, drums, a bass guitar, a piano, and a electric guitar. What makes this song sound country is Blake Shelton voice and the acoustic guitar. This song reminds me of a rock and roll song because of the electric guitar solo. Overall this is one of my favorite country songs.

  9. My favorite country song would be my favorite singer Darius Rucker. His song is called "Southern State of Mind" and it is literally the best song ever. I love all of the musical elements in it: the guitar, banjo, and it said just his voice alone. The song is about how he can't get rid of how sounthern he is no matter where he is. I love it because it just makes me laugh and smile seeing as he is the reason I started to listen to country music anyway.

The utilization of the acoustic guitar and electronic tones gives the song this preserved feeling. I love how songs in this era of music blend many styles to produce great music.

Country music isn't my favorite but something about this song makes me want to sing. The twang in their voices and the way they pronounce some words makes it country. Also, the heavy drums and the string instruments add to the country sound.

  19. I do not listen to country music, but I like this song. I randomly clicked on it and I was happy with it. I think it is a cute song about a man who is proud of where he came from. The song is called " Huntin', Fishin', and Lovin' Everyday" by Luke Bryan. This song uses the guitar. The way Luke is singing, and the subject of the song makes it country. This song is similar to R&B because of the up-beat tempo.

  20. I really enjoy listening to different genres of music. I sometimes listen to country music when I’m feeling extra southern. One of my favorite country songs is “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” by Toby Keith. I like this song because it has a catchy chorus and is patriotic. It was written after the 9/11 attacks. The song utilizes the guitar, keyboard, and drums to give it the signature country sound. The song sounds similar to alternative rock because it kind of has the same tempo.

A guitar, drums and a piano is used in this song. Her accent is what makes this song country or sound country. This song is similar to other songs because it is motivational.

  22. Although I am not necessarily a country fan I do enjoy "Mama He's Crazy" by The Judds. I just think its a really cute song. It just gives you a propensity for saying "awwww". It is a song about a man being in love with a women. Which is always such a beautiful thing. Therefore it makes listening to this country song a lot easier or me. Also it is an older sounding country song. Which also adds to the beauty of this song because I do like older music for love songs. Overall, this song's meaning and heart is what makes it so special to me and allows me to bypass the genre.

  23. My favorite country song is "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum. I like this song because of the way it shows the different sides of their partner not coming home. The majority of the song has a guitar, piano, and a little bit of violin. What makes the song country is their country accents and the way the music is played. This song is like most songs because of the heartbreak and hurt they go through.

  26. My favorite Country song is "Cowboy Casanova" by Carrie Underwood. I like this song because the lyrics are like she's giving advice to someone who was in her shoes, and I also love the video. I just Carrie Underwood and all of her music because she's a story teller. All of her songs paint a picture and take the listener to what she's singing about.

  27. The song I chose for this blog post is "Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood. The song is about a girl whose home life wasn't too good and all she wants is to be free. The song is mostly guitar, drums, and bells; the general characteristics of a country song. This song is different from her other songs because it's something some people can relate too, when most of her other songs are about romantic relationships.

  28. I chose "Red High Heels" by Kellie Pickler for this blog post because I like the type of song it is. It's very empowering and very feministic in a way. It has the typical instruments used in country western songs: drums, guitar, and bads to name a few. I like how she's saying that she kicked her man to he curb because he was cheating, and she did it all in her red high heels.

  29. The Country song I chose was "Dirt on my Boots" by Jon Pardi. I don't listen to country music but when I first heard this song it made me think of how the western day songs were. In the song you can hear a banjo, fiddle, thumping of a electric drum? This song doesn't sound like other regular western songs because it have all the traits of a country song that would have came out back then. The music played in the background and the way he modifies the words really sound country. I really don't know another song to contrast "Dirt on my Boots" with because Im not use to listening to Country music.

  30. Keith Urban's "Blue Ain't Your Color" caught my eye while looking for country songs. This song includes instruments such as the guitar, drums, and piano. The set up for this song is a little ways back, with the video being in black and white. The instruments along with Urban's voice give the song a western feel. The beats in the background give the song a mix of RnB as well. This song is has honestly became something I enjoy listening too.

For starters, I do not listen to country music! I only know one, so I guess that would be considered my favorite country song, and the name of it is “Slip on By” – by Austin Webb. I tolerate the song because my grandad makes me listen to it and I just don’t want to hurt his little feelings by telling him “ I don’t like it”. A guitar is used in the song. The way Webb sings and the way that the guitar is strung makes the song sounds country. Even though I am not a huge fan of country music, I really like the words of this song. They have so much meaning!
