In a second paragraph, tell me what your favorite song or genre of music is and why. Use a many musical terms as possible when explaining. Copy and paste a link to the song at the end of your post. Your post should be a minimum of two paragraphs (5-8 sentences for each), use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. All posts should be made to the blog site before Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:59 pm. No late posts are accepted. Post early so that you avoid any technical problems.

Here is a sample song.

  1. My name is Trinity Doniver. I am 14 years old. The last school I attended was Baldwin Arts and Academics Magnet School. I am in the 9th grade. This year in choir I want to learn how to not have stage fright and I would also want to learn how to be a better performer. Something you may not know about me is that I do not like chocolate but my favorite candy is Hershey cookies and Cream.

My favorite genre of music is hip-hop r&b, it is my favorite because it is nice and unique music. I also like how some of the songs are adagio and legato. I love when people sing in some songs and how allegro it is. One of my favorite R&B songs is What is love by V Boseman. I like how towards the end of the song she changes the tone of her voice.

  2. My name is Breuna Lewis. I am a senior baby and soon to be legally 18 years old 🤪. I have attended BTW my entire high school career. This year I want to explore more experiences in choir. Another thing, choir is the only magnet I have been in.

My favorite song is "Tell Me Lies" by Ann Marie because I like her as an artist and her genre. I cannot really tell you the name of the genre because it is a mix of RnB, Pop, and Rap. I just call it 'the in your feelings genre'. Ann Marie is one of the many artists that I love in this particular genre, but i could only choose one song. Any type of emotion that I am feeling I will listen to this song and others on repeat. If you haven't listened to this song you should reconsider.

My favorite song is, currently, “as I am” by H.E.R. I enjoy contemporary R&B music because it is chill and it speaks for me. I also enjoy HipHop Because it Gets Me Hyper. https://youtu.be/lQ2UAXR9HYE

My favorite song at the moment is “Killing me softly” by Fugees. I like this song because it has a very laid back feel to it yet it is relatable. My favorite genre of music is Hip-Hop because it puts me in a head space that allows me to block out everything around me out so I am able to complete the task at hand.It also gives more “energy” to accomplish things.

  5. My name is Anna Keith. I am 14 years old. Last school I attended was Walter T. McKee Middle School and I am currently in the 9th grade. I want to learn how to stop nervous and have great stage presence. Also, I love to draw, read, and listen to piano instrumentals.

I have two favorite genres of music that I love one being k-pop and the other being old school music. I came to love these genres because of the lyrics, meanings behind them, and the beats. I feel like in this generation these "rappers" lack the knowledge of knowing what true music is no matter what kind it is.The only good rappers are Kendrick Lamar(I love Him) and J.Cole(I love him too). My favorite groups are New Edition, Xscape, SWV, Jagged Edge, LL Cool J, R.Kelly, Tupac, Biggie, and more but I can;t think of them right now. Artists nowadays can't top these artists in my opinion.

attended Booker T. Washington Magnet School. I am currently in the 11th grade. This year I would like to learn how to properly breathe and use my diaphragm while singing. One thing that you may not know about me is that I like to write poetry.

My favorite genre of music is Contemporary Gospel. I like this style of music because it combines rhythm and soul to both magnify and worship God while maintaining a youthful flare. These songs can contain both adagio and allegro. I love how these songs also can be filled with lovely crescendos. My favorite Contemporary Gospel song is "Won't He Do It" by Koryn Hawthorne.

My favorite genre of music is K-pop and Pop. I love these to genres of music because the beats are different and don't have the same old beat. The background music is really clean noticeable and clear. You can't really here much of that in rap. My favorite pop singer is Demi Lovato I use to like Katy Perry but she doesn't make that much music. I also think pop music is cheerful and fun and makes me feel like dancing around. My favorite song of Demi Lovato is "Give Your Heart A Break".

  10. Wassup Everybody,
My name is Timothy Brannon. I am currently 15 years old. Last year, I attended Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School. I am in the 10th grade. I enjoy playing various different sports, singing of course, listening to music, acting, writing, and deep thinking. I’ve been singing since before I could even talk. This year in choir, I would like to learn how to take care of my voice better and how to become an even better singer.
I like Gospel music, as well as, kind of a mixture of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop. They each have their own flavor and spice that just touches a person’s soul. My favorite Gospel artists would be: Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs, and Tye Tribbett. In other genres, my favorite artists are Rihanna, Sade, Etta James, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, SZA, H.E.R., Jussie Smollett, Bryson Tiller, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Bruno Mars. Every one of these artists have their own certain sound that sets them apart from the rest. That is what makes them artists and not just singers. They craft their talent and it’s simply awe-inspiring. I strive to be like them. I leave you with a quote from Yolanda Adams:
“No matter how hard it seems…Never Give Up, Always Believe.”
    See you around campus, Tim

  11. Hello, my name is Eliana Hataway. I am currently a junior. I went to BTWMHS last year. I would like to learn songs from various genres because it would be nice to sing something different every once and a while. Something people may not know about me is that I have been in choir since I was in 4th grade and I have sung alto, soprano 1 and soprano 2.

My absolute favorite music to listen to is anything from Broadway. I am a huge musical theatre nerd and I am always listening to soundtracks. I love theatre because there is always a song for every emotion and I can relate to characters from various shows. I always seem to have some show running through my head with choreography to match. It is so easy for my to lose myself in the melodies and their harmonies, although sforzandos are my favorite because with the right singers it sounds amazing.

  14. My name is Zeniah Lee and I am senior who has attend BTW Magnet since the 10th grade. This years goal is to finish highschool and graduate with my lowest grade being exactly one B. I am a fun girl who is all about having a laugh, but when it is time to work I am very serious. I love to read, write, and sing and listen to music. I am most definitely a homebody and my favorite food is anything Mexican or Italian that fits my diet.
I do not have a favorite genre because I like all different types of music. I can listen anything from gospel to rap to country just because I like the versatility that it possesses. Therefore, it often hard for me to just commit to one favorite song forever. So, as of now my favorite song is "LaVeNdEr" by Kamua. It is a beautiful love song composed of heart wrenching lyrics. It has a piano core that is added to a simple beat and Kamua has such a raspy tone that draws you in even more. His vocal range is slightly explored in this song and you can tell just by listening he has a vast amount of control like a pro. With his skills, the dynamics, and the love story it was easy to pick this song as my latest favorite.

  16. Hello my name is Shakira Thomas. I am a sophomore. I did attend BTW last year. I am currently 15 years old. I want to learn how to become a better singer because I want to be able to sing for special event people have.

My favorite genre of music is gospel and contemporary music. I chose these two genre because I grew up listening to gospel so I really did not have a choice but to have a liking of it. Contemporary music became a favorite over the years because I would hear them on the radio and I would be feeling the vibe of the beats of the song, so I would search the lyrics when I got home and find the song and just listen to it over and over until I got tired. Gospel has always been my go to person when I felt as if I could not talk to anybody about anything so I would just hold all my pain and emotions in until I was only and was able to just listen to music and let all my of it go to God. Many people have told me that hold in my emotions and all pain is very bad because one day I could just have a total melt down but I do not care at all because nowadays it's hard to trust anybody with my problems and what I'm going through. I just really think I'm good because all of what has happened to me has only made me a stronger person, made me realize more look at things differently in life, and also to cherish every single moment you have with the people you care about the most because you never know what may be in store for them.

My favorite One thing that not many people know about me is that I am a second degree black belt in Taekwondo.

My favorite song is "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. The song was written by Robert Plant who is the lead singer of the group. I love this song because the structure and message of the song are intriguing to me as well as how it is performed. It starts slow and soft and then the melody changes. Also, the lead guitarist, Jimmy Page, has an incredible guitar solo.

Another thing I will strive for this year is to make progress in reading music because believe it or not a lot of vocalist can’t.

My favorite song is “In Love With Another Man” by Jazmine Sullivan. I like this song because it shows her range and abilities. Not only does the song start in a low range but towards the middle she reaches higher pitches you would never think it was the same person singing. In my opinion , Jazmine is a wonderful artist and all around amazing. She is my favorite and I hope to meet her one day.

It's your girl Jazmine Rayne a.k.a Jaz. I am 14 years old and I am currently in the 9th grade. Last year I attended Resurrection Catholic School. I sing in my church's choir. I love fashion, especially shoes (all kinds) I love music, singing, and acting. I love performing. This year in choir, I want to learn how to get over my stage fright . I also want to learn how to control my volume, tempo, and breathing when singing.
To be honest, really don't have a favorite genre of music. Music is in my soul, I only think of it on two occasions, that's day and night. I listen to all types of music from gospel to pop and country and from hip hop to R&B. I just love the different anthems and ballads, they really soothe me.
If I just have to choose a genre of music to be my favorite, then it would have to be hip hop. As a child, I was raised on old school bass music from Kilo Ali, Deuce Komradz, and Dirty. I learned how to count 16 bars by listening to their music. My hip hop love goes on to my favorites the G.O.A.T s Tupac and XXXtentacion. My favorite rap song is "Brenda Got a Baby" by Tupac. This is my favorite because it is the first song that I learned to rap. My favorite contemporary-country song is "You Belong with Me" by Taylor Swift. My favorite gospel song is "For Your Glory" by Tasha Cobbs.

  21. Hello my name is Mya Marshall I am 15 years old and I am a sophomore at B.T.W. I attended B.T.W for my freshman year as well. In choir this year I really want to step outside of my box and push my vocal abilities to new places. Sometimes we have to do things we don't fell comfortable doing vocally to accomplish what we want vocally. I also want to improve my breathing technique since that is a weakness for me. My favorite genres are Gospel, Jazz, R&B, and alternative pop sometimes if it is the right artist. Jazz is one of my favorite genres because I think it is different. When the band is playing a piece there is a shout chorus which to me brings the song together and completes it. Some of my Favorite artist consist of the Clark Sisters, Amy Winehouse , Frank Sinatra, Aaliyah and Billie Eilish. I really loves Aaliyah voice she has range, tone, and her falsettos are endless.

One of my favorite songs is "Heaven" by Beyonce. In the song it seems as though she is singing from experience. Everytime Beyonce sings she sings from the heart. She sings with power and grace. Not only is she a good singer but she is one of the best performers of all time. Beyonce has thethe best live performance you could ever watch.

I like music that has this type of beat that you can sing along to but is also calming and this genre fits this description well. My favorite but song from this renege is " Dance With My Father". 31. My name is Jamiah Givner. I am 17 years old. I have attended BTW for the last 3 years and am finally a senior. This year in choir I want to learn how to find a key signature. One thing you may not know about me is that I like all music except rock.

My favorite song right now is One Night Only by Sonder. It is in the R&B/Contemporary genre. I love the flow of the song. The dynamics in his voice along with his tone make the song so easy going and smooth.

  32. Hi!! My name is Asha Knight. I am 16 years old and I am a junior. I have attended BTW since 9th grade. This year in choir I want to be more well rounded, meaning i wanna improve vocally but I also wanna improve as a person. I wanna do things i’ve never done before and be more involved. I think that completing this goal that I have for choir will help me grow in general and that’s my overall goal.

My favorite Genre of music is, and will always be, R&B. This genre is what I grew up listening to and it was what inspired little 3 year old Asha to start singing. I wanted to be just like the people I was listening to, Fantasia, Whitney houston,Beyonce, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Michael jackson, jennifer hudson, and so much more. I think what made me fall in love with R&B as a young child was how versatile it was. Everyone I listened to had their own sound, their own color, even their own diction and it was all so beautiful to me. The fact that everyone could sing the same genre but sound so different and beautiful is what I love about R&B. One of my many favorite R&b songs is “The way you make me feel” by Michael Jackson. It is definitely one of the greatest.

  33. Hello, my name is Jahmai' Williams. I am 17 years old. I am finally a senior this year it's been a long informative journey. I have attended Booker T. Washington all four years. This year I expect choir to be my best year of them all.

My favorite genre of music is R&B especially 90's R&B. The reason why I like this genre because the harmony and melodies are unmatched by any other. Some of the groups with the best vocals are Xscape, TLC, SWV, and New Edition. Other solo artists I love are Aaliyah, Brandy, Monica, and Janet Jackson. One of my favorite song from this era is "Brokenhearted" by Brandy Norwood. I like the richness and tone of her voice, which in turns makes her one of the best 90's vocalist.

  34. Hola, my name is Garrett Harden. I am 15 years old. I attended Baldwin Arts and Academics Middle School last year. This year in choir I want to learn how to get my voice to sound good out of my comfort range. You might not know that I can not stand country music, like at all.

My favorite song right now is "I'm yours" by Jason Mraz. It is in the pop genre. This is my favorite song because I love how it sounds, this song reminds me of the 2000's. The way he talks about her , you can hear that he wants her to be his very bad. The dynamic is very nice.

  35. My name is Kerrityn Knight and I am 17 years old. I have attended Booker T. Washington High School for my 9th, 10th,11th and now my 12th grade year. Despite what many people think I am not an only child. I have a sister and I am the oldest. I enjoy singing and I’m looking forward to this school year in choir because I feel that it is going to bring a lot of growth in many areas.

I do not have a favorite genre seeing how I like to float from one to a different one very frequently. Though my taste in music is constantly changing, the genre I am currently listening to the most is pop. I have been replaying 5 Seconds of Summer’s album “Youngblood” for two weeks now. My most played song at the moment from the album is “Valentine”. I love the elements that make up the song and how it has this eerie yet romantic feel in both the music and the lyrics.

  36. My name is LaTayvia Walker. I will be 18 in one month (currently 17). I am a senior and I have attended BTW for all 4 years of high school. I can be very arrogant at times, but I try to stay humble. This year in choir I want to learn more songs written in other languages. The songs that we do that are not in English are usually my favorite and sound better.
One of my favorite songs is "Crzy" by Kehlani Parrish. I listen to this song almost every day while doing homework. It gives me a little motivation and something to groove to while “trying” to be productive. I like it because she talks about how she had to work her way up from the bottom to the top. She also talks about how she is passionate about everything that she does and how everyone tries to count her out, but she keeps counting her blessings. Kehlani is a great artist with a unique style of writing. She tells her life through her songs and is very confident of where she came from. This will forever be one of my favorite songs, no matter how played out it gets.

  37. Hello future stars!!! My name is Veronica Conely, and I'm 16 years old. I've been at B.T.W. since 9th grade, and I'm a junior now. This year in choir, I want to learn how to analyze and work out music theory significantly faster, since I've always been a slow learner/worker in that field. Some things some people may not know about me is that I LOVE asparagus, and that I like to write stories in my spare time. Despite stage fright, I love singing and performing, and I'm really excited for Showcase and other performances this year

My favorite music genre is conveniently choral music, especially cathedral-like choral music. My favorite song is "Let My Love Be Heard" by Jake Runestad. The harmony is wonderful, and near the end of the song, the choir uses fantastic dynamic skill. They progressively go from pianissimo to fortissimo over the span of about 3 minutes; incredible dynamic control. I also love the passion in the joined voices; they do a great job of conveying a deep sadness, desperation, and longing just by using their voices. I adore this piece!

  38. My name is Ni'emah and I am a sophomore at BTW. I attended BTW my freshman year as well. I hope to learn how to work with others in choir. I also want my voice to continue to progress throughout this year. Though I do not plan to make singing a future career I enjoy having fun outside of hardcore academics in choir.

My taste in music rapidly fluctuates from hip-pop to Spanish reggae to traditional pop to R&B. I do not have a favorite genre of music because that's impossible for me. it's been months since I've listened to the music on my phone but the last song I played was "I only have eyes for you" from the movie "A Bronx tale". I really appreciate the way their voices blend into this beautiful one form of sound. they performed great crescendos through out the whole song from one verse to the next. The echo in their voices brush smoothly along with the acapella voices and the beat. Overall it's interesting to see how seriously people took music back then.

    Goodnight!!

  39. LaTrell Huitt

Hey, my name is LaTrell Huitt. I am 18 and the last school I attended was Booker T. Washington. This is my third year as a student here. I'm a senior, and this year in choir I want to learn how to better myself as a musician so that I can be well rounded. Some things you may not know about me are that I am actually quiet with a calm personality.
My favorite song would have to be “Killing me Softly” sung by Furgees. This is my favorite song, because it is unique to me. Any song that I find is interesting to me and stands out from other songs would become a favorite, depending on the type of mood I am feeling. I favor this song for the tempo especially! It is just something about when that beat drops I often find my body corresponding to the rhythm in some type of way, if not even multiple ways.

  40. I choice Diamonds by Rihanna sung by the One Voice Children's Choir. This song was accompanied by piano and violin. My favorite thing about the piece is how beautiful and effortless these kids sing these high notes through out the piece.

There is not much i can say about their performance. This choir is amazing but their is always room for improvement. These kids ave voices you could ever imagine, but i feel as if these kids would make their voice sound a little bit more professional and round the would be a more powerful force to be reckoned with.
