This is one song I like and we have done it each year at the True Divine Concert. Everyone enjoys it and almost everyone knows it and can easily learn it.
The song that I chose was "Melodies from Heaven". We preformed this song for our POPS Concert 2016 and it was absolutely amazing. It was fun when we danced with the song but also tiring. I chose this song because I love it, I could listen to this song 3x back to back. I like to intro of the song with the bass guitar and drums. It is even better when the actual choir sing along. I like when the tenors sung separate, then sopranos and altos joined.

The song I chose was "Bitter Sweet" by Fantasia. I would always listen to this song when I was younger riding in the car with my mom. This song is just a good song and attractive just because of her powerful voice. The intro to this song is good including how the piano comes in softly and she makes her voice soft with it. Then the drums come in that makes it a dramatic effect. This song ties in with POPS 2015 when we had a drum player insisted of a tape with the background music.

The song that I chose would be "Fly Before You Fall" by Cynthia Erivo. This song is one of my favorites because I literally just calms down whenever I listen to it. I feel like someone is always there for me, and that I am never alone in anything that I do. The piano in the background really is just soothing, and it makes you relax. Her voice is really soulful yet like a pop singer and she singers with a purpose. The entire song is mostly piano and there are vocal background and when all of these things come together it makes for a good song.

The song that i chose was "Total Praise" by Richard Smallwood. This song is one of my favorite Gospel songs because the choir and the piano gives the song much life. Also this is one of my favorite songs because I praise danced to this song many times. We sung this song for our POPS Concert this year and it was wonderful. My favorite part of the song is when the choir sings the Amen.

The song I chose was "A City Called Heaven". This version is by Mahalia Jackson. This is one of my favorite songs sang by one of my most influential artists. The Booker T. Washington Magnet choir has done this song in the past but it was written a different way. What I love most about this song is the way she delivers such strong emotion throughout the song to its entirety. This song is an original negro-spiritual which she sings with such impressive control over every note. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIfKzeLD4YI

The song that I have chosen is "I've been Buked". I chose this because we sung it last year and I enjoyed it. We sung "I've been Buked" last year at the Black History Program at Old Ship. This song includes many dynamics and LOTS of high parts for sopranos. The music was medow and soft all until the dramatic parts. This was one of my favorite songs this year and last year and I would love to do it again.

DeleteOne of my favorite songs is "Ceann Dubh Dilis" by Micheal McGlynn. The song is suppose to be an ancient poem used to represent love. What makes the song amazing is the stoicism of the song which tells the story. The use of drums help support the hardy voice of the singers. It meshes with a couple of songs we did in my sophmore year and a current song like "Agnus Dei". The song uses latin which is a tough language to sing especially to very boxed singers, but the sound is outstanding when well performed.Although each song has its own representation each is foreign to music we practice so I find them exuberant and propose we sing more in class.

My favorite song that I chose is "If It Isn't Love" by New Edition. This song talks about a man who left a troubling relationship because he didn't want to fall in love. Only to find out that he was in love with his former girlfriend, but is still in dilemma over it. The choreography to the sing is very smooth and I enjoy it throughout the music video.

One of my favorite songs is "Didn't My Lord Deliever Daniel" by Paul Robeson. It's a negro spiritual with a variation of religious ties. When sung acapella it is separated into 3 to 4 strong parts as well as a solo having strong messoforte sound then going to softer measures. Although when accompanied with piano it played loud and fitting. This song relates to what we have been learning becaue we happen to be doing this song and are working to get all the musical elements done correctly. Making sure we sing the right pitches and are loud and strong. Our posture is correct so our voices will give off the proper sound.

My favorite song is "All I Do is Think Of You" By Troop. I was watching a movie called "Almost Christmas" and this song was playing in the background. I was thinking to myself, like maybe i should listen to this song more often. I listened to it once and soon after that i was listening to it everyday. The song is kind of amazing. Troop did an excellent job on this song. After listening to that one I've thought about listening to their entire album.

The song that I have chosen is "God In Me" by Mary Mary. This song is about a woman being judged of how she approaches things such as life, people, etc., but they don't know that when she gets home she prays every night. This inspires me because it teaches us to not judge a book by its cover. The two artists singing sound wonderful.

My favorite song is No Weapon by Fred Hammond. This songs helps get through the hard times when i think no one or nothing can help me. Also, because it is written by one of my favorite gospel artist. When Fred Hammond sings you know that this comes from his heart because of how much he expresses his self in the song. Some of the instruments used in the song are guitars, violins, piano, and drums. Fred Hammond helps me understand when I don"t have anyone I still have God.

For this week's blog post I will be using the song "The Storm Is Over Now". This song is relatively slow with moving lyrics. This song and "I've Been In the Storm" are very similar. They are both slow and have the same message of making it through a storm with the help of the Lord. These songs, and songs like them, are personal testimonies of peoples various "storm" experiences.

The song I chose for this week's post is Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up." This song is similar to "My Love And I" because of the lyrics. Both songs talk about a couple who wishes to stay together despite of trials and distance.

The song I chose is "I Know I've Been Changed". I remember when the Lincoln University Concert Choir came and performed for us my sophomore year, and I have been in love with this song ever since. The soloist from Lincoln was phenomenal, and her voice truly makes this song ten times better. Listening to the choir as her background, I can hear them using precise cutoffs and decrescendo/crescendo like we always do. They were also repeating the same parts for the majority of the song, so they had to make sure the phrases didn't sound the same which is what we always do.

One of my favorite songs would be Revolution by Kirk Franklin! I love slow gospel songs but I love when a gospel song make you want to break out and dance. In this song they use a lot of crescendos and decrescendos in the song ! It relates to some of the music we sing in choir because for one , we sung a Kirk Franklin song for POPS concert ! Secondly we do a lot of crescendos and decrescendos in our songs. For example , "Music Speaks" ! If you haven't heard the song before , go check it out !

The song I chose is " I Shall Wear A Crown" by UAB Gospel Choir. I remember when we sung this at school and it was very touching. The soloist from UAB was wonderful you can tell she made it her own. The choir was a great touch to the performance. Their parts were very put together and clean. I like how they mix the parts up and made it into something fresh. I will like to add that sopranos was killing me when they were hitting them notes at the end.

A video that I have watched a lot lately that I can call my favorite is a song from the Musical The Color Purple. It is the song "I'm Here" sung by Cynthia Erivo who plays the lead in the musical. The way she sings this song really brings out her character. I can hear all her pain, and you can tell she tells a story. All of the string instruments and the drums really bring this song together and her voice really just makes it all great. I LOVE the way she sings and one day I hope to be as great of a singer as her.

The song I am writing about this week is "Weak" by SWV. It is sung by three women. It relates to something that we have done in class because, it was one of the selections at POPS 2016. Ever since POPS, I have been in love with the song. It has so much emotion in the song and it "get's me in my feelings" very often. It also ties into songs that we are singing in class because it's about love. We are singing about love in the song "My Love And I".

For this video, since a majority of them are gospel songs I will do one of my favorite performances by Chrystal Rucker which is her singing "Changed" at the Hawkins Family Tribute in February of last year. Rucker is a master of melismatic singing in my professional opinion, as well as the song is similar to "You've Been So Faithful," message wise. Both are about a change in their life because of God. I love her voice and this performance. Her melismas turn into runs and vice versa, and its just beautiful, honestly and truly. I hope this video blesses someone as it has me.

This week I chose "Girls' Talkin Bout " by Mindless Behavior. This song is my personal favorite by them and brings back memories. The musical elements also reminds me of mutiple things in choral. Like at the beginning and throughout the song how the bass part will come in and change the whole feeling about the song. Our basses are good and add flavor, just like "Girls' Talkin Bout", to any song we do. And the fast beat reminds me of Done Made My Vow. Also the beat makes me wanna dance, which all our gospel songs make me wanna do. Another thing is the back and forth between different parts. It reminds me of My Love and I. Lastly, at the end when they slowed down. We do that in almost every song.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite songs is Bridge Over Troubled Water. This song is among one of my favorite songs I’ve ever heard and a personal favorite that I like to perform. The song’s message and its different parts are amazing and makes it one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. Many artists have performed the song in various ways. One of my favorite is Josh Groban and Brian McKnight performing this piece.

ReplyDeleteMy true favorite song is not appropriate, so the next to favorite song of mine is “Why I Love You” by Major. I chose this song because it just expresses me completely. “Why I Love You” have so many emotions in it. Which makes it so special. The lyrics are so sweet and meaningful. Major sings in different octaves during this song, and that’s something we have been learning to do in class, expand our vocal ranges. I really love this song it has a special place in my heart.

I have many songs that I consider my favorite. One of my favorite songs is “You Deserve It” by J.J. Hairston. I love this song because it has amazing vocals. The song has good harmonies and a great balance between the choir in the back and the soloist. This song relates to what we are working on in class because it is a gospel song and we are currently working on gospel songs that need to have dominant vocals and strong harmonies. These are two of the major things that really make a gospel song have a religious feel to it.

The song that I chose as my favorite is "Weak" by SWV. I really like this song it is one of those throwback songs that really just gets you to sing along. I have sung this song before and it is just really catchy. The steady beat, and smooth rhythm of the song is great. You can harmonize so easily with it and I feel like that is what you look for when you sing a song like this because it is easy to learn. It's a love song and it makes you smile because you can't help but think of someone as you sing it.

Nevermind. Another song that I can consider my favorite would have to be by Jazmine Sullivan and it is called " Redemption". This song has a hard R & B feel. The hard drum, guitar, piano, along with the vocals in the background tie the entire song together. Jazmine Sullivan's voice is rough yet amazing and when you hear it, you just know that no matter what you are going to hear a good song. All of her music is good and it really tells a story that she sings with her voice. You can't help but smile and see her going through the songs she sings, and that is why I really like it.

The song I have chosen for this blogpost is "Agnus Dei". We are currently singing this, and I find it beautiful. It gives a sense of desperation, but at the same time, it's calm and happy. The lyrics are in a different language, and that's fine. It simply adds to the charm of the song. I like singing this song with our choir because we make the different parts blend together nicely. It's a fairly short, simple song. I enjoy singing this with the choir.

My favorite song at the moment is "Guys My Age" by Hey Violet. Lately I have been in a mood we're guys that are my age aren't able to meet up to my standards. I enjoy singing this song in the car with my best friends at the top of our lungs. I enjoy the beat of this song especially when the bass is all the way up. In the song she talks about how guys her age are playing around and not taking things serious and I honestly agree with her.

My favorite song at the moment is "Issues" by Julia Michaels. I really enjoy this song. She expresses that relationships are difficult, but in a good relationship there should be issues that we are able to work out together. You can tell she put her all into this song and it is coming from deep emotions. I love the beat in the back because it is not a sad slow song but a song that uses a pop beat to express to the listener that it will be okay in the end.

My favorite song at the moment is "Cry" by Noah Cyrus featuring Labrinth. I like this song because it has a pop beat I on a sad song. It makes me think about the past and what I want to happen for the future. I really do like Noah Cyrus aesthetic because she follows after her big sister Miley but it's all her own style. This is her first single and I can not wait to hear more from Noah.

I have a lot of songs that I really enjoy but one of my many top favorites I'm choosing this week is "cause I love you" by Lenny Williams. One reason I chose this classic love song is because I really love the instrumentals. I especially like how well you can here the strings in this song because stringed instruments have a special place in my heart since I used to play violin. Another reason I chose this song is because I love the passion in Lenny's voice while he is singing. He is really singing like he is so in love with this girl. He sounds like he wants to cry almost. I appreciate this not only just because its just emotional and sweet but a big part of singing is entertaining and he entertains well. So I can definitely understand why this song is a classic and it will always be one of my favorites.

My favorite song for this week would have to be "Seasons of Love," performed by the cast of Rent. This year we have been put to the test, vocally and culturally, with the type of music we sing. We have song pop rock, gospel, spirituals, folk, and many more. This cast that signs it represents the diversity of who we are as singers. Also, we have been learning how to sing loud, but still sound good. Some of the pitches in this song is at the top of some of our ranges, and the members execute each note with such beauty. This song shows, for me personally, that you have to remember the good times in life and let go of the hurt and bad times. As my senior year is coming to an end, I am looking forward to showing as much love to all of my fellow choral members. I could not have been more proud to lead and learn and grow with such an awesome group of people.

My favorite song is Rihanna's "Needed Me". I'm in love with the techno like sounds that were used to create the actual music for the song. Especially towards the end where it's only the sounds but they kind of sound like her voice. Almost as if they fused the two. The lyrics are also great and the bass guitar is another one of my favorites. I listen to this song like once a week.

DeleteAlthough it is past Christmas time, my favorite song remains to be "Carol of The Bells." I love Christmas music with a passion, and this song is my favorite. From the background music to the high pitches and fast pace, this song gives off a joyful vibe enjoyed by most people who have the pleasure of hearing it. We performed this song at a church this year, using just an ensemble for the people who were familiar with singing the song. Year round, this is my favorite song to listen to.
